I did think of that as the heading but when growing up St Anne's on the Sea was just a quirk of the railway station.A good read. By the way, they call themselves "St. Annes on the Sea" these days.
Sorry to hear your return to St.Annes was for a family funeral Cat, commiserations. Love living here, so much to love about the town. The house we live in was originally a chauffeur’s lodge belonging to No5 St George’s Square found this old photo of the plot before it was built, it was used as the tennis court for a local school.View attachment 5775

I've figured it out now Levi. The tennis court was where Back St George's Square divides. My house is a couple of doors down on Beach Road. These Porritt houses have a fascinating history. Would love to have seen them back in the 19th century.
Yep, Elijah Hargreaves formed the company and needed Porritt's investment to keep it going. That's the bloke who built these amazing houses. The people who appointed him were mill owners from Rossendale who thought Blackpool was a bit rough and wanted somewhere more sophisticated to take their vacations. In retrospect he wasn't wrong was he?.
I think you logged in with the wrong account ‘Joe’.Mine's further down the road. Sorry, can't seem to post a pic from my phone.

Correct Tommy, you’ve probably been passed our place a few times. We used to own a flat in one of the Porritts on St Annes rd east/corner of St Patrick’s rd north, it still had most of the original features amazing dimensions! As you say imagine what they must’ve been like in the early days, i nicknamed them ‘the mighty lions’ when we first moved into one! Magnificent specimens of Victorian architecture.I've figured it out now Levi. The tennis court was where Back St George's Square divides. My house is a couple of doors down on Beach Road. As you say ‘Lytham’ without Porritt continuing to build his houses during WW1 the new town of St Annes would probably have come to a premature end.
good one!I think Levi is growing increasingly concerned that people may be living in his garden.
Voy, looked it up yesterday.1952 and 1958.
