St Annes on Sea

Good post, remember tacking my 2 son's to the pitch and put, when they were kids, one hit the ball into the train that goes round the course, had to wait till the train came back round to get the ball back.

Used to work in St Anne’s. Miss those lunchtime trips to the beach listening to music. Auntie lives right next to the Dunes, backing the railway line. Always like to make a day of it when we visit.

Sorry to hear your return to St.Annes was for a family funeral Cat, commiserations. Love living here, so much to love about the town. The house we live in was originally a chauffeur’s lodge belonging to No5 St George’s Square found this old photo of the plot before it was built, it was used as the tennis court for a local school.View attachment 5775

That picture was taken from where my house is now.

Tommy that’s confusing, where do you live then? Anyway here’s a picture I took from our back trying to get the same view of the original photo.

Good post Cat, if it is indeed you.

I have to be sceptical as there isn't a single mention of anyone named Boris.

I've figured it out now Levi. The tennis court was where Back St George's Square divides. My house is a couple of doors down on Beach Road. These Porritt houses have a fascinating history. Would love to have seen them back in the 19th century.

That's the bloke who built these amazing houses. The people who appointed him were mill owners from Rossendale who thought Blackpool was a bit rough and wanted somewhere more sophisticated to take their vacations. In retrospect he wasn't wrong was he?.
Yep, Elijah Hargreaves formed the company and needed Porritt's investment to keep it going.

Correct Tommy, you’ve probably been passed our place a few times. We used to own a flat in one of the Porritts on St Annes rd east/corner of St Patrick’s rd north, it still had most of the original features amazing dimensions! As you say imagine what they must’ve been like in the early days, i nicknamed them ‘the mighty lions’ when we first moved into one! Magnificent specimens of Victorian architecture.
