St.Georges day.

Wasn't he actually Turkish?

Bloody foreigners, coming over here killing all our dragons 😂🤣
Being slightly serious for the moment, I don't actually have a problem with St. George as our patron saint, but, although as a non-conformist Protestant I'm not really that bothered about Saints, I do think it would have been nice if we actually had an English born patron Saint, someone like Aethelstan, Cuthbert or Thomas Beckett

St. George and the Dragon, c. 1490, 2.28 x 3.5 metres, painted and gilded oak, hair, antler, leather, rope, metal, stone, and gems, Storkyrkan Stockholm, Sweden.

The most magnificent depiction of St George ever made. Remarkable.

Sadik Khan is happy we've reclaimed the flag from the far right...

I suppose it's good people are actually embracing it, even if it's just always been the countries flag and should always have been.

Good. The flag needs to be reclaimed from those knuckle-dragging, intolerant nobodies. As for Laurence Fox, if I never watch Lewis again it won't be soon enough and I have a lot of time for Kevin Whateley and Rebecca Front.

Far right?

How do you define Far Right?
Me? I say it can be a number of things that sometimes combine but not always.

It can include a desire for strong, authoritarian government. One that does not require an electoral mandate. Or at least, an accountable electoral mandate, free from bullying and threats of violence.

It usually also includes a mythological adherence to a belief in a past time of greatness, borne out of racial strength, purity and conquest.

It can include the belief in a "superman" leader to take control and make the country great again.

It always involves a blame culture, where those blamed for a country's ills are seen as non-conformists, aliens who would swamp our purity with an unwanted and alien culture.

The adherents to far-right beliefs always see themselves as the indigenous, original occupiers of a land that is being mistreated and brought down by externals (immigrants).

Anyone and everyone that belongs to a community, group or interest outside of the perceived interests of the far-right are to be shunned, fought and made illegal. They may be other religions, trades unions, socialists, Conservatives and even artists.

Those are typical far-right tropes. What is your definition?

So we don't really have a massive far right movement then?

Cheers

My point is that i travel all over the UK, i speak to thousands of people and I'm yet to meet one of these far right people that i keep reading about
When things went so far to the left, the far right then became virtually anyone else who disagreed with them, when infact a lot of widely held views classed as far right these days are perfectly reasonable.

Massive, no. Persistent, yes.
I would say a very very small minority

60 million people in the UK
Far right probably a few thousand say less that 2% of the population

Its hardly worth all the fuss yet i hear the far right mentioned daily

The Brexit comment is complete nonsense as millions of labour voters also voted for Brexit are you saying labour voters are far right?

2% of 60 million is 1.2 million. Hardly "a few thousand".

I hope you're better at spotting extremists than you are at arithmetic.

St George is like Jesus and Allah, probably didn’t exist.

However we should be proud and not ashamed of our country/Britain so why not celebrate.

If it’s today we celebrate then so be it.

Jesus probably did exist, Allah is Arabic (and other languages) for god, so almost certainly doesn't exist, but you're probably confusing him with Mohammed, who almost certainly did exist.
