Stephen Dobbie

He's on the preview Show tonight, maybe have a watch and get a feel for his character etc.

I've got no idea other than they've got a notion that because he's been around Holloway he'll play a certain way.

What I can definitely say is, had the board appointed Dobbie and the results had been the same then this board/twitter would be FULL of people raging at

'the ** ridiculous decision to appoint a man with no prior experience at this or any level - what is this? Amateur hour with Simon and Ben? We needed someone like Mick McCarthy! Anyone could see this wouldn't work Someone with experience to get us back to basics and inject a spine into this team - we'll not get anywhere with tippy-tappy fancy-dan stuff - sort it out SADLER'

Probably in someone's drafts somewhere.

I have no idea, it would be madness, he is nowhere near ready for a step up like that and in such a terrible situation. It could ruin his career before it even got started.

If you want Ollie style football then we should go and get Ollie!

The problem is when do you appoint someone like that, similar to Critchley.

In the championship, "he doesn't have any experience of a relegation battle."

In league 1, "no we need someone who will get us up with experience."

There's are people we struggle to bring in btw and our experience hasn't worked out.

He's so far shown real promise, the problem if you miss out the timing is always off or we just won't take a chance on someone like Evatt as shown. Than you miss out for good probably.

Dobbie is an experienced pro who has done his coaching badges, he got North-West Youth Alliance Manager of the Season at AFC and has done well with us and the dev squad.

He seems to have all the qualities needed, plays good football and was himself involved in our best balanced sides under the best manager.

He knows the club, is at the club, loves the club, fans like him.

He is knowledgeable about the game and has played at this very level so knows it well, not all managers have.

If anyone watched his TTV sessions with the dev squad he came across well and likeable but you got the feeling the lads want to play for him.

Of course it's a gamble like any appointment, but our experienced appointments havent shown much promise. Him with an experienced number 2 at his side to make up for his experience but with his promising fresh outlook, knowledge of the club and passion etc. What's not to like.

The reason is simple. It's a little known fact* that the area of the brain that's responsible for logical thinking is also the area most stimulated by frustration.
So, when you're bottom of the league and haven't won in 14 games, the sheer amount of frustration renders people completely unable to think logically.

*Almost certainly bollox.

A potato could do better than Michael Appleton or MM
In fact, I could do better than Michael Appleton or MM
Letting the team out to play they way they want is better than Michael Appleton or MM

IN FACT.....I would let Phil be the manager for the day.......Second thoughts.......Let's stick with the potato
Ye whatever

"he got North-West Youth Alliance Manager of the Season" that's the game changer for me......even Pep hasn't got that on his CV🤪

It's bizarre for a number of reasons

Mostly he doesn't train the first team and never has, so this notion of knowing the players is horse shit

Secondly he's only been a coach for about 6 months and the coaching isn't even in the top youth leagues so is akin to coaching Bamber Bridge or something

It's nonsense

If we really have to target someone with Blackpool links how about Michael Jackson, Richie Wellens or Michael Flynn all with loads more experience than Stephen ** Dobbie

They were looking for a short term appointment and getting someone in quickly with 18 games to go.

I suppose like most clubs nowadays, every age group including The Development Squad, were geared to play 433 like the first team.

Flynn is a great shout and seems to turned Walsall around after the job he did at Newport. But they wanted a quick appointment and went for Jurassic Park.

Everyone starts somewhere, the experienced guys we've had have probably done thousands of games between them. But we've looked mostly shocking with all 3.

A typical statement pretending to be factual but as usual most of it is made up.
Dobbie took 1st team training the day after Appy was sacked.
If you think there's no interaction between the Development Squad and the 1st team you're wrong again.
He started coaching whilst at Queen of the South, continued coaching while playing at Fylde and in 2021/22 he was named North West Youth Alliance Manager of the season.
So he's been coaching a lot longer than 6 months
We all have to start somewhere and Dobbie is obviously learning his trade.
We can't all be a Gerrard or a Lampard starting at the top and working our way down. He's going about the right way, IMO of course.
I've no idea if he will make the grade but neither have you.
So appointing him would be a huge risk and I'm not advocating it, yet, but wouldn't rule him out.
However at the end of the day he works for BFC Academy so it's gives you another opportunity to put the Academy down.

We don't train the first team but we still know it like the back of our hand, he's at the club so he'll keep an eye on us and know the players.

You can see him confirming he trains with the first team and also talking about players like 'Hubby'.

He knows them.

Levels though

He hasn't coached at anywhere near the level we are playing in

Like I said he's learning his trade.
I'm sure he will be being assessed and there will be people around who hopefully can identify if he has potential.
I hope he has.
You just keep your fingers crossed we can persuade Fat Sam out of retirement.

I'm sure he has potential for the future

Is that really the level we are at NOW?

Maybe it is.

Fat Sam would have been a hell of a lot better than the last 3 managers

And to be honest i wouldn't trust the people around to identify if it's raining or not

Phil if we don't win tomorrow we have absolutely nothing to lose appointing him or similar tomorrow night.
There isn't a chance that they will pot McCarthy

I do agree with you though, he's an awful appointment who cleary hasn't done any homework on us or our players

It's a shambles

But you never know we might scab a win or 2 somewhere
