The first band that I saw live when a young teenager, 50 years ago. “Sebastian” has always been a favourite. This news is quite upsetting for me.

Factamundo, the guitar solo bit was written by Jim Creggan who wrote a lot of stuff for Rod Stewart. Jim still tours with his band and they always play this song.

Jim Cregan (factamundo) came up with the guitar solo off the cuff in the studio and recorded it in one take.
However, the song is solely credited to Steve Harley, since Cregan was regarded as a band employee then.

Speculative 3rd hand thoughts on what might have happened, I guess. All I can say is that I have seen Cregan play the guitar solo live, and note-perfect a bare month after the record’s release.
