Stevenage v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 03.02.24

He really should have been getting us in the play offs at a minimum.Automatic should have been more realistic with the players he has been given. He was given Jordan Rhodes ffs in League One.

I respect his coaching pedigree but he still fails to react tactically in game and his reluctance for a settled side hampers us imo.

If he has rested Dembele to protect him today I can possibly understand what he has tried to do but it’s such a big game he should be starting.Lavery should’ve started over Kouassi aswell.
I do love the fact that people conveniently forget that we have Derby Bolton and Portsmouth in our division but yeah…. We should definitely be expecting automatic promotion because we signed Jordan Rhodes !!!!

We should be in the top three of this division minimum.I’ve said that from the start of the season. We are the ones coming down with Championship experience and not even challenging for the league title. It’s a failure you can’t dress it up any other way.

For me this is purely Critchs fault. We needed to bring Byers and Dembele on at around the 60 min mark, but he just stood there watching us struggle. The guy is f****g clueless
I was only listening intermittently on the radio but was getting frustrated thinking the same thing. The co-commentator, who I think may have been Mick Payne was obviously getting frustrated too and saying Dembele should just come on and be told to create things . Why no Byers for 30 mins ? Critchley would probably say he needs to be integrated into our system or similar.
Seems to be obsessed with " succession planning" so signing players for 2-3 years ahead . I think we need an experienced centre back. You would think Marv likely to leave but still being picked. Hamilton being picked every game is outrageous.

Exactly, during Critch 1.0 he learned very quickly how to deal like teams like Stevenage.

Remember we got done in by Gillingham early on, but the return fixture we thumped them 4-1 because Critch changed tactics swiftly.

We've played 3-5-2 or some variation of it throughout the season with very little tweaking.

Does he really think that this system is the one to bring the most out of this squad?

He came in with his sophisticated 4-3-3 trying to play the Liverpool way and changed after it repeatedly failed, is it because we've actually had some decent results with the 3-5-2 this year that makes him reluctant to abandon it?
I think 5 of the top 6 in league 1 last year, played this system so that could of had some bearing on his thoughts, plus this system will give us a the best chance of competing in the Championship when we get there.

if he learned very quickly he's obviously forgotten just as quickly because we've failed deal with teams like Stevenage all season.

Seems mad to play a system that might work if we get promoted, but doesn't work to get us promoted.

Finishing outside top 6 will be failure for sure

I haven’t looked but I would wager that the majority of teams relegated from the championship including far wealthier clubs than Blackpool go straight back up the following season, there is generally a hangover from relegation to overcome.

One manager understands the requirements to get out of League One. One keeps scratching his head wondering why his great on paper system doesn't work.
