Still trust your algorithms Simon?

Realise this is aimed at Sadler but in terms of algorithms and reliance on data …

The one game I watched on TV this season when we were on Sky, his assistants were obsessed with whatever was on their iPads. I rarely watch the bench on a match day but is this a regular occurrence?

Playing football manager, as that is as close as they are likely to get.

Indicative of today’s game.
Head in the iPads studying the data analytics, when it’s clear and obvious with a set of bloody eyes what is happening in front of them.
The Greatest Football Managers use their eyes. Critchley won't change now. He's bought in to stats, data and formations that probably work when played out on a computer. The problem is that it doesn't take in to account player's mind sets or capability of fitting in with that data.

The collection and use of data is part of modern day football management but there is a lot more to it. And much of it you either have or you haven't got, it can't be learned.
If it was just about the algorithms any geek could be a top level manager, is Critchley more Clive Sinclair or Jurgen Klopp?
Unfortunately for us I feel he is a long way off being Klopp and his assistants might aswell have a zx81 for all the good the ipads are doing!!

Yes, they love an IPad, they’re stats mad and can’t wait for the end of the game to look! They can then feed these stats into a spreadsheet and from that produce some coloured graphs and pie charts, maybe even a ‘zen diagram’

Another Liverpool thing. This is why we had to put up with watching Sonny Carey every week, despite little obvious impact on the match

I think this all started to go wrong when they stopped managers having a fag in the dug out.
And when players stopped having a beer before kick off, you knew it was all going down hill.

Lets get back to the real game, when men were men and they kicked 7 shades of s##t out of each other for 90 minutes.
4-4-2 is all we need....none of this namby pamby 'foreign' rubbish.....They just need to kick the ball towards the goal....That's it

When I ran the Under 9's, it was like watching Brazil play.
You don't need a piece of paper from FIFA to tell me I'm a manager.......

Theyre playing Candy Crush

Fancy trying to learn things and gain insight via analysis. It will never catch on.
Agree Baz but let someone else do it while Critchley, Stadler and Walford do what they're paid to do, sort the bloody team out during a match!!
Do the stats say play players out of position?
Do the stats say just pass it round the back even if you're losing?
Do the stats say you must make a substitution on 70 minutes whatever's happening?
Do the stats say you have to replace a player with EXACTLY the same type/style of player?

They may be looking at the stats and analysing everything but they're not learning anything from them🤪
