stranglers fans

I know theres a few on here, the link for the new single dropped in my in-box this morning. ive seen the live version before but this studio version is better IMHO, and this is probably the best stranglers video ive seen, with a special guest star this song
Good Stranglers article in yesterday's Guardian. Go on the Guardian website and search Stranglers.

Couldn't believe how old they are, Cornwell was born in 1949 - it just makes me feel ancient.
I like the new song, but they are not really the same band with out their main creative force Hugh Cornwell. I saw them a few years ago and they played a selection of songs from the 70s and 80s. Not a bad way to pay your pension but just pure nostalgia.

JJ burnel is 69!!!!!

To be honest i always thought hugh cornwell was kind of the weak link although he has written some good songs and his solo stuff is quite good. When i listen to the stuff they did as a five piece it always sounds like a band trying to be the stranglers, but since it dropped back to a four piece with Baz Warne, theyve produced some good stuff, and live they were still phenomenal. I'm not sure the tour this year is going to be the same without Dave Greenfield though, even if they find a very good keys player.

A bit of nostalgia is never a bad thing,

I've got their first ten albums and seen them 3 times but only once when Hugh Cornwell was with them. 85 in Manchester.
Once he left, I didn't listen much to the stuff they wrote after until I went to see them at the Grand in the late 90's. Saw them last at Rebellion a couple of years ago. They're brill live but were never the same once he left. Jet stopped playing gigs a while ago and of course with Dave Greenfield dying, it takes away the heart of the band.
Saying that, I'm off to see them on their last tour next year and will watch them at Rebellion next August.

Yes. Tickets for Manchester, cancelled twice... 3rd time lucky this year.

Saw The Jam twice in that period.....brilliant
Yes, there were some great groups in those days at reasonable prices in the union refectory. I worked there part time to get to as many concerts as possible. As well as the Stranglers I saw Ultravox, Sutherland Brothers and Quiver, the bands in the Stiff tours including Elvis Costello, John Cooper Clark, Lene Lovich, the Clash, the Jam, Uriah Heep, Boomtown Rats, Tom Robinson band, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Nazareth, Graham Parker and the Rumour, Wishhone Ash, the Ramones, Lindisfarne, Siouxsie and Banshees, the Pretenders, UB40, Judas Priest, the Buzzcocks, Motorhead, the Undertones.
All the main groups did proper uni tours in those days. Not the case now
