Goalkeeper - I think Grimmy is better than Maxwell, but Maxwell was brilliant in that season so I'll say it's even. It's hard to imagine Grimmy having a better season this season than Maxwell had in 20/21.
Full backs - 100% stronger with Lyons, he's going to be great in league one. It's lucky we've only just signed him otherwise he'd probably be off as well, he's comfortably championship standard. Thompson has many detractors but I think he'll prove to be an improvement on Garbutt.
Centre backs - I think we're stronger. In pure ability, Ballard was very good. But I think Pennington edges it with his experience and leadership qualities.
DM - Trybull and Norburn are stronger than Ward, Robson, Stewart (even though Stewart is a great player, he couldn't contribute often enough). Though it really does depend on Trybull's fitness. We still have Dougall too. I'd say we're stronger though overall.
AM - Carey and Morgan vs Embleton, Virtue, occasionally Anderson. I'd say Embleton and Anderson are better than Carey, unsure on Morgan. But I do actually rate Carey who I think has a lot of potential. Overall I'd say weaker, but not a lot in it.
Wingers - CJ and Dale vs KaiKai, Mitchell. I can't really choose between these. I think KaiKai was the most talented, but did go missing often. Both years not great. Even.
Strikers - Lavery and Beesley vs Yates, Madine, Simms. Undoubtedly weaker.
Kyle Joseph plays a lot on the wing by all accounts, so that would tip the balance in that area to stronger this season. But It's pretty clear where we need to strengthen.
