Subs

First off what a first half, where did that come from, then Coulsons finish.

Wrong subs by critch today, luckily didn’t cost us but to go all defensive with so long left invited the pressure, I’m knackered 😃

Shayne was pressing very well, defending from the front so to speak.

Their back line and DM had little time on the ball, which is perhaps why they tried so many long balls (which were booed by their fans).

When Critch changed to a more defensive shape and 1 up top, we immediately conceded about 5 yards and gave their midfield more time/space. So yes I agree with the o/p that we invited pressure.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Excellent Performance up to the subs though. Certainly the best 1st half we've played at home this season imo.

Coulson probably could have come off 5/10 minutes earlier imo. Probably as soon as he got the yellow. The guy was gassed but put in a terrific performance.

Beesley and Lavery were looking quite tired to me too and the ball just wasn’t sticking.

I just don’t rate Norburn - he weakens the team. He was the only error today in my eyes.

I thought the big no9 (Cosgrove)for them made a difference rather than the subs although they weren't great,Marv struggled against him

I thought the subs were right. They were pressing and everything was dropping in the middle so Norburn was the right choice. Koussai to hold it up.

Norburn looked a bit out of match fitness and Virtue definitely did.

We defend from the front and our forwards cover a lot of ground which goes unnoticed sometimes
That said we should start to sub them on the hour onwards to maintain the pressure on their defence
The first sub was negative when everything had been so positive from the start

Changing lavs for Norburn big mistake. As someone else has said we dropped back 5 or ten yards and took away a key part of our energetic defensive work on their defensive line. The understanding we seemed to have in the midfield suddenly disappeared as well. Byers was looking tired on 70 minutes, but lavs looked fresh as a dew encrusted daisy and seemed to be enjoying himself. Coulson was struggling from about 65 minutes, a knock, cramp, a slight muscle pull ? But needed to come off, I suppose it could be said a difficult decision when he's having such a good game.

When virtue came on, the midfield had already been overrun to some extent, and the organisation and understanding that had been present was no longer there. If we were going to go a bit more defensive and needed to solidify (tin hat on) it was probably a game for Connolly, who can defend, who can break up play, is decent in the air and doesnt mooch around pretending to be an effing generalisimo. But truthfully I'm not sure we needed to go defensive. If anything we needed to go to the slightly dull possession football which we've played quite a lot this season to no effect.
