Morning guys.
Looking for any suggestions on a destination within a couple of hours drive of the north west for a lads golfing weekend for my mates 50th.
Ideally we don't want to be driving much once we get there so hotel & pubs near the golf course would be perfect.
Does anyone know of anywhere suitable ?
Cheers in advance

It was a long time ago but I used to go on a golfing weekend when I worked at Blackpool Printers. It was at a place called Epworth near Doncaster. It was a great little place, we all stayed in a B&B (the Red Lion I think) which was right in the middle of the town and there was plenty of options for pubs and places to eat all in walking distance. It was pretty lively at night too. Can’t remember the name of the course we played at but it was only a short drive away and it was a decent enough course. I’m sure it was a bit of a package we booked with the Red Lion that included the 2 night stay and the 2 rounds of golf but it was over 15 years ago so could all have changed. Worth looking at though as the location was perfect.

Carden Park in Cheshire. Two courses and a hotel on site.

A bit further afield, St Pierre at Chepstow has two courses around a Marriott and do decent deals. Former European Tour venue.

Belfry is another.

Would highly recommend Slaley as well. Very organised and wasn’t over busy when we went a couple of months ago 👍🏼 On the other hand give Portal in Cheshire a wide birth, very busy (Sunday round took nearly 6 hours 😡) and very wet after just a couple of days wettish weather 👎

A few years ago I stayed at a place West of Grimsby, Laceby Manor.

It was basically an 18 holer surrounded by lodges, and if you were staying in one you got free use of the course.

It was perfect for me, not a stand out exceptional place, just a standard length, compact parkland course in good condition.

I would say check out they still do that concession, then the cost of the lodges divided by however many are going makes it very affordable.

Some of the lodges almost border fairways, and I'm fairly sure I gave one a bit of a clank. But the one we were in was a little further back, 100 yards or so, and close to 15th tee, where the last four did a loop back to that point. So of a late evening, with the course deserted, I could fall out of the lodge and play the loop to my heart's content.

We played Slayley on a captains trip the week after they'd had a tour event!!
The greens were like trying to put on a Volkswagen beetle bonnet!!
Bit of a track to get there.
Give Portal a VERY wide birth.
Shit facilities, shit hotel, shit course.

Carden Park is cheap and cheerful plus two nice courses 👍🏻

Always thought golf is a good walk ruined, but stayed in Mcdonald Hill Valley in Shropshire a few years ago and they have a great set-up for golf parties. Two courses to choose from and they'll give you a package with beer tokens if you negotiate. Straight off the A49 and just under 2 hours from the Gold Coast. Here to help.

Agree Carden is cheap and cheerful but they keep sticking you on the Cheshire course

Roxburghe near Kelso. Hotel on site.... Plenty of airbnb etc in Kelso itself. Great course with plenty of other golfing options nearby.
