Summer Transfer thread part_deux

I would like to see a big physical ctr midfield come in , alongside Byers. We got outmuscled in the centre many games last year
 
Have I missed something re: Byers?

I'd love him to sign but I haven't heard anything to suggest he's signing with us. People acting like it's imminent
 
Good business done so far. My ratings...
Rhodes - 9/10 - proven goal scorer at this level
Fletcher - 8/10 - worth the gamble, physical presence with pedigree and a lot to prove.
Ashworth - 8/10 - highly rated with league one experience, could improve
Coulson - 8/10 - fits the LWB role perfectly and was one of the better performers 2nd half of last season

Realistically we need a CB, a proper defensive CM, attacking CM and a winger option or 2
Currently LB, RB and Strikers are covered
 
We should look to loan Bosun Lawal imo.

Fleetwoods best player last season on loan from Celtic. Played as a defensive midfielder but can play centre back or wing back.

Big unit but good with his feet and likes to drive forwards. Could be a good gap filler

good idea but it sounded like he had Champ interest, or Celtic might take a look. But you never know.

If not him then this is the type of player the squad needs, there are a few to go for as we all know. so hopefully it will be one that ticks all the boxes. Incidentally 12 months back it was reported we had interest in Elkan Baggott 22yrs 6,5” left footed CB at Ipswich, spent half of last season at Bristol Rovers. Can’t get in Ipswich side, a 12 month loan would be good IMO.
 
How much better are we from the team that finished the season ? Add Byers to the squad will improve. But we have to go to Birmingham, Rotherham Huddersfield etc etc to get results. 2 CBs 2 midfielders and another striker might take us there, these next signings are going to be crucial.

We’re worse at the moment, but there’s a Iong way to go before the season starts.

GKs - all set.
RWB - all set (Gabriel, Hamilton and Lyon’s back around Christmas)
LWB - all set, stronger than last year. (Coulson, new lad)
Strikers - all set, stronger than last year. (Rhodes, Beesley, a fit Joseph, Kouassi and a Fletcher who can’t be worse than Lavs last season)

CB - need at least 1 who can start with Casey and Pennington (I’d have Hubby as 4th choice personally). May need another depending on whether the Burnley lad goes out on loan or not.

CM/AM - Need at least 2 in this area. Maybe 1 if the Southampton lad lives up to his billing, but we haven’t been able to see any of him yet.

Definately weaker at the minute without Dembele, Byers and (to a much lesser extent) Marv.

Cant disagree with any of that, its all in the melting pot here on in. A minimum of 4 good players will take us towards our goal. But it may come down to who leaves and who we replace !

He’s a man in demand. I’m sure he has a few offers on the table and at his age his next contract is probably his most important. The fact Rhodes and Coulson have re-signed surely shows it’s a good place to play football. So we can hope.
 
We can hope but it'll come down to money and he'll almost certainly get offers we can't afford to match. He may end up in L1, at Birmingham or something. But he looks capable of playing in the Championship.

I don’t disagree. But until he signs somewhere there’s a glimmer. By the sounds of it he was mentioned at the fans forum unlike Dembele who’s perceived to be an unrealistic target. So the club must think we’ve a slight hope.
 
We are a few players short of being as good as last season, let alone improve. On the plus side the likes of Norburn and Joseph will have a lot to prove and hopefully be 100% fit. If we can secure a ball playing, experienced centre back, Byers/central midfielder, a centre forward with genuine pace and a number 10, we will be absolutely fine. Still a lot of work to do in the recruitment department but I'm content with the business we've done so far. Hopefully another positive week ahead.

Wouldn't hang your hat on dembele not signing if I were you. He's been released by Brest and available on a free! He would be guaranteed 1st team starter for us... could he be guaranteed the same higher up the pyramid?

He is still under contract to Brest and there is no reliable source that says he is available on a free transfer that I've come across. Only that they have have decided not to keep him.

I don't know how the rules work, but is he 21 and therefore have to be named in the squad to get picked for Brest, rather than a youth??

Not that it matters. He's not coming here and it's possible Brest have had enquiries so have stated he can go maybe to alert other clubs. They've certainly ruled him out even if he had another season out on loan leaving 2 years of his contract left.
