Table of Best supported Championship clubs (in relation to population)

A bit deceiving and not really an accurate survey of the catchment area though. Burnley is a bit of a myth as it only includes the population of the town and doesn't include Accrington, Clitheroe, Nelson, Colne, Rosendale and even across into Yorkshire. Likewise Boro, missing Stockton and Billington whereas it looks like Wigan includes Leigh, Atherton, Ashton etc.
Closer to home, the populations of Lytham St Anne's and Poulton won't add a massive amount on so maybe we should be in the playoffs 🤣

Yeah a bit of a nonsense because of silly boundaries and as you say, some have hugely populated areas around them with little competition.

Then you have things like price and how the season went as factors affecting things too.

Anyway whatever, let's forget that shite season.

Don't forget Burnley/Blackburn/Accrington have a high percentage of asians in their community, who for whatever reason, don't generally attend football matches.

I still think us coming 14th is pretty good though, given the season we have had.

Makes me laugh when other big city clubs fans mock our attendance.
Their gates are only generally bigger because their population is much larger.

I only got to number 8-Sunderland before coming across a very helpful article on arthritis of the knee, just read above we were 14th, that’s pretty decent under all the circumstances

Very interesting post thank you. I have always said that being on the coast out catchment area is NOT a circle more a half moon and in the circumstances our attendance figures are pretty good esp with big clubs like Man U, City and Liverpool within reasonable travelling distance. Burnley have always drawn support from places like Skipton etc. Be proud of our wonderful football club UTMP

Unfortunately Blackpool has always been a very cosmopolitan society.
There are possibly more non locals who were born in other towns etc.
I remember that many of my friends, as I grew up, were born outside Blackpool.
Neither of my parents were born in Blackpool. Fortunately for me they became 'Seasiders'.
The parents of my best friend ever were not born in Blackpool.
We went to Wembley together in 1953.😀
Unfortunately he passed away a long time ago. I still miss him.
