good question. i fluctuate on this as much as the weather. someone posted about our 2020 squad and that was very capable as opposed to this terms squad. I finally put capable but only because the league is poor this season and think we are decent without being very good (if that makes any sense). 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Capable with attacking mindset coaching and tactics.

No chance under the current approach
Unless Sadler turns his nasty side, if he’s got one, on Critchley. The coaching and tactics will be the same next season, I don’t think he will change, unless someone writes a new coaching manual for him to follow. Those three haven’t got a single idea of their own.

We can blame Critchley for lots of things but it's every bit as much on the players as it is the manager. Joseph is up there with the worst number 9s I've seen in a Blackpool shirt. Yes he runs around but he'll never be a 20 goal striker, he'll struggle to get 20 efforts on target. Norburn is an absolute plodder. After Portsmouth and having a great game, he's quickly reverted to type and shown what a completely uninspiring player and captain he is. If that's the sum of our ambition in the transfer market, we can expect a lengthy spell in the lower divisions. When Dembele, Byers, Ekpiteta, Lavery, etc leave in the summer I'm not overly hopeful oir recruitment team and owner will replace them with better. The club needs a bit of a shake up, we need to take a look at what we actually want to achieve. Sadler talked about building an exciting Blackpool team that plays on the front foot and gives everything for the shirt, well he needs to think about how we go from yesterday's performance to a team that is capable of producing such football.

I think they’re capable of going up when all of them are fully going for it, and play in the right way. Don’t think we’d stand much chance in the Championship though.

They don’t show the ‘capable of going up’ level enough though.

Personally, I think he has the individual quality in the squad that can (and does) beat the best in the division. What critchley hasn't been able to do over forty plus games (friendlies, cups and leagues) is finding any kind of system or approach that maximises the individual talents. I have the feeling that when the team plays well it's despite critchley's intervention.

good post for me this. one thing yesterday that didn’t sit right for me i noticed him tearing a strip off casey yesterday (second half), i know our captain is a “moaner” (most teams have one tbf) but surely it’s counter productive especially as casey is a young lad learning his trade and doing very well at it.

Look at Lincoln they got good players from somewhere for not a lot of money
Remember the stick Hardie got, now Joseph who can play killer passes as well as forward play, definitely think he will come good.
Not sure all those on your list of leavers will go.
Think a lot of our players have a good attitude, but things need to change.

Neither Critchley or the contracted squad he's put together is capable of taking us forward and into the championship. Do any of us really see the likes of Husband, Carey, Virtue, Norburn, Hamilton, Beesley, Lavery, Kouassi making an impression in a higher league?

I'm afraid Joseph is looking like an expensive flop. A forward with a career to date goals per appearance ratio of 1 in 6 isn't likely to suddenly set the world on fire.

Perhaps, to squeeze in the playoffs, winning them however who knows? One thing I am sure about is the team is nowhere near good enough to challenge/stay in the Championship without substatial investment and a new manager. Over to you Mr Sadler.

Just watching EFL highlights. How teams score goals is often thro speed and running off the ball. We are so slow and deliberate and other teams know exactly how we play - as we fans do 🤡
It’s not good to be so predictable.

I don’t think so… certainly not without an exceptional coach.
And we certainly haven’t got an exceptional coach despite what you said about him in the recent past..he’s out of excuses and out of hiding places. If he is staying then we have to invest in the squad and hope he can turn it around..assuming he is here next season then surely a play off position is the minimum requirement after 10 games…anything less is simply not good enough.if we miss out on a play off place then this season has been a missed opportunity and a massive disappointment..I would rate the manager’s performance as a solid 3/10 thus far

There is the basis for a team to get promoted but we lack the creativity and unpredictability required to open up defences. We needed to get a ball playing midfielder and a different forward in January as well as a proper winger but failed to do so and we are paying the price.

You’re right about Norburn etc. Who signed them ? Oh yes Critchley, who was chasing Norburn for a couple of years? Oh yes Critchley, who keeps saying as yesterday we were competitive, we deserved something? Oh yes Critchley. Dress it up however you like, why do we sign players with a reasonable reputation and they end up plodders. Critchley trying to make them play in positions and a system they’re not comfortable with and he hasn’t got the nous to change the system to suit the players. He would rather try and make the players fit his system.

Finally. We normally wander around like of a bunch of mutes, and criticise them for there not being a leader.

We need more of it, not less.

Did Wigan deserve to win? He's right, we did deserve something from it.

After that first half? We deserved what we got. Any decent team would have destroyed us in that first half. Alright we were a little better in the second half, by then it could have been too late.

But it wasn't. Wigan had one shot on target in 100 minutes and only 4 off target. How is that a well deserved win? How is that 'destroying' us?

I genuinely don't recall any of this supposed Wigan superiority in the first half. One chance. That's it.

Read my post properly, I said any decent team. I didn’t mention Wigan, they were as bad as us, but took their chance.

I might get my abuse for this but in this league and if we are going to play like we do we need a big horrible bas.... up front (like Madine) who will cause havoc and have defenders on their toes and be wary that he is around, we are to nice we don't see that mean streak enough, also a ball playing centre half because Ekpiteta looks like a shitting dog when he has the ball at his feet.

Capable, it's the heart to go that extra yard though and win when the going gets tough I don't think this squad has and I couldn't give a monkeys if Critchley swears differently.

We weren't playing any other team. We were playing Wigan. Other teams are irrelevant to the conversation.
Ok , we have the best manager ever. We have the worst players in league one and it’s all their fault. Critchley is battling on manfully against the odds and we’re damn lucky to have him. Happy?

I'm not saying that at all.

He is nowhere near as bad as made out, and our players aren't as good as made out either.

only when it’s constructive Wiz. The particular instance i’m referring to was when Norbs was covering his own error, that isn’t needed especially directed to an up and coming youngster.

Not good enough - especially because I’ve seen little evidence of the manager improving any of the players.
The failure to bring through Sonny Carey, who Husband chose as being a potential Prem player, shows he is as inept as a coach as a manager.

That I do not understand. To get something out of the game we needed to score at least one goal, but we did not possess that ability, so yes we deserved to lose. Not forgetting that not for the first time in an away game we were slow to react and allowed a cross to come into our box and once it had entered our box we did not deal with it. These repeated errors should have been ironed out on the training field, but they keep recurring!

The squad lacks quality and consistency for me, particularly up front. Don't score enough goals to be a serious promotion threat (look how Lincoln have leapfrogged us)

Not without our top scorer for long periods, we’re too weak up front without Rhodes.
