Team "you would like to see" against Hudderfield

I genuinely think MM is going to be another one of these square pegs in round holes, so no idea what he could put out. But some players must be brilliant in training....
My team would be:

Grimshaw

Connelly
Goode
Thorniley
Lyons

Bowler
Dougall
Patino
Poveda (No. 10 role)
Rogers

Yates (Capt.)

451 turning into 433.

I genuinely feel We "have" to get at that these in the first 10 minutes, that is going to set the tone for the game. The only one I could see different to that is Maxwell (as he didn't do a lot wrong against Boro & think MM may stick with him). Patino and Bowler are on a kind of last chance, as I haven't been impressed at all of late, but I just feel they can unlock something out of nothing.
Poveda HAS to start!!! Genuinely think he is the most talented player at the Club.
Yates HAS to start, through the middle. We have attacking wingers, Jerry has the pace to keep up and get himself into the box. I like Madine, and he serves a purpose (eg. last 15 mins), but I don't believe we need to be playing a game that involves him holding it up from the off, it slows down the play for the players in that system and I think him being there prompts players to play it long too often.
Thorniley must be the most underrated player by Managers. Actually don't think Nelson did too much wrong Saturday (he's one of MM's men though so will probs start), but Thorniley always gives his all and will always put his foot in. He can actually pick a pass too.
Give Yates the Captaincy. He epitomises Blackpool FC on his day, and i feel he would thrive off being that leader to drive us on.

For me it’s got to be players playing in their actual positions. We have been best when we have speedy wingers attacking and cutting in , with Yates . Poveda has to start , as well as Thorniley . Couple of solid midfielders (Patino too lightweight ) and we have to set out to be attacking and win the game . Three points is a must

Thorniley HAS to play. He is our best defender. I wouldn’t have Thompson anywhere near the side, he’s a liability.

Most of all though, we need to play a system that suits our players - and that isn’t five at the back and hoofball!

Thorniley is not our best defender at all...he is woefully slow and is just ok. Pretty sure he will be gone in the summer and we can replace him with a more mobile imposing centre half. For the record I think Marvin despite a poor season is better Goode is certainly better and Nelson showed flashes yesterday to suggest he is also better. I could even make a case for Husband being better as he can also double up as a left back. Thorniley has one position and one position only and he is too slow at times to be trusted.

For the record I think Huddersfield will play 3 centre halves so 5 4 1 and we have to line up to match and better that...0-0 is not an acceptable result and its a game we have to try and win. Mick suggested that nobody will be playing every game and to that end I assume he will change things up to match the opposition. Personally Im not bothered if we play Maxwell or Grimshaw as I think they both have plus points...I would probably just favour Grimshaw as he will have a point to prove. I would certainly rest Patino. So here goes

Grimshaw
Connolly
Goode
Nelson
Lyons
Trybull
Dougall
Bowler
Poveda
Yates
Rogers

That leaves Madine and Lavery from the bench as a plan B along with Carey and Patino as options to change it up.

Thorniley has been the most consistent and reliable player - quietly going about his business effectively

Grimshaw

Connolly Goode Nelson Lyons

Bowler Dougall Trybull Rogers/CJ

Poveda

Yates

Or played as a 4231 with the same players

Why would anyone have Patino in their starting eleven? Been carrying him all season.

Cos he scored against Preston & goes in the Armfield sometimes he’s immune to critique.

He’s been absolutely shite since the World Cup break and gave the ball away so many times yesterday especially in the first half.

Playing right footed left-backs is never fluent. We’re all agreed that Thompson is like a lottery ticket; buy it and hope ! If Garbutt isn’t available, is Rob Apter still with us ?

Maxwell
Connolly Goode Thorniley Lyon’s
Trybull Dougal Bowler Proveda
Yates Madine

Go on the front foot from the start. Close them down & if players are tiring use the subs. Not bothered who’s in goals TBH. Other change for me would be Garbutt for Connolly.

Summary.
Notice all want Trybull & Dougall in cm, and agree Patino rested.
Also Bowler on re his natural position!
Also Poveds as a 10.
Let's hope MM agrees, and we attack!

I wouldn’t drop Patino as he's our best midfielder by a country mile he just needs help
Too lightweight. When was his last decent game????
Our midfield has been powerpuff for ages, hence no wins.
Need stronger.
I'd like to see Connolly in there too but hes needed more in defence due to injuries.

A Tense Grin

Mate, I wish you'd stop being so negative! 😒

The players are Not shit. They're decent championship players, trying their best, playing against bigger clubs, but have had no help from referees or either of the managers this season.

Hopefully the next week brings us two wins and then were all a bit happier! 👍

I don’t want to speculate on the team(s) for either Tuesday or Saturday, but I hope the players on the field understand what these games really mean and give 110% in effort. Every game from now on should be treated as a cup final.

I said put Dougall in for Patino weeks ago and got the response “who in their right mind drops Patino for Kenny” with many likes for this comment.

Point is, I would have then and I would do so now. Patino is talented, no doubting that - I have just felt for a while, that in our struggling team, either deploy him in that 10 role with freedom to pick passes and be creative with a couple of dogs behind him or rest him to the bench.

In a confident team where opposition fear us, then he can be deployed in the 6 role as teams back off us and Charlie gets space and time to dictate the rhythm of the team. Right now, no team fears us, they don’t back off us and he spends too much time trying to track runners and make tackles. Neither are his strength.

Then it’s a choice of him in the 10 or Poveda?

I started a thread after the Forest game saying more or less the same then somebody posted a tweet comparing Patino's stats to Jude Bellingham ,I mean come on,who falls for this shit? 😂

Thorniley hasn’t ever let us down. He has a good eye for a pass and is probably one of our better players.

As I said he is just ok no better…he was at fault for at least six goals towards the end of last season and has been at fault for a couple this time(he’s not alone in that department) if he had pace he would be very very good but he hasn’t got any and it does sometimes make him vulnerable. Squad player for me and we could and should be getting better players..harsh but true

How does that help? We need to survive in this league and, yes, we are poor at the moment. However, if we can survive I think there's potential in this squad.
The players with the most potential in the squad are loans. If we survive, which at the moment is a diminishing hope, the squad needs a major investment in the summer or this is going to be a perpetual fight against relegation.

We have to play like we did at home against Sunderland if we do we will be fine especially 1st half

Good to see a couple stick CJ in there at last, Man Of The Match deserves a mention.

Bowler Poveda Rogers should start as a midfield attacking 3 behind Yates. Even if its only because their names easily fit into a chant to the tune of Una Paloma Blanca!!

Thorniley cost us two points on Boxing Day for starters.

The shear magnitude of this week is making my stomach turn. Whatever 11 take to the pitch need to understand the importance of tomorrow AND Saturday. It’s do or die time for us.
