That old chestnut...should players live near the club?

Too many living away. Sign em up and insist they live on the Fylde. Then they are in the community. Loads of lovely places round here so why live in Manchester or Prescum. This should apply to the manager too.

An hour at most to get training. You know it makes sense.

If their wives / partners are told they have to live in Blackpool, happen to read the health/crime/drugs/homeless/education etc league tables, where we always appear at the wrong end, or they take a walk around our shops, we'll never sign anyone 🤣

Because they have friends and families, and they don't want to uproot their lives every 2 years or so when they change club, so they base themselves in areas where they've got a wide choice of clubs, and put up with the extra mileage on the car in return.

Clubs have rules where players have to live within a certain distance from the training ground. If they live further that's when you get them staying in digs/hotels through the week. Loads of people commute to work so it really shouldn't be an issue.

Went to Barrow today to watch rugby
Whilst I love the scenic journey along the coast road, the town itself is somewhat desolate.
Admire what the cub has done, but wouldn't expect my players to live too close to the ground, were I the boss.

If you were a professional football player would you want to live close to the club you play for?

You wouldn’t be able to do anything without a fan spotting you even something like fuelling up your car or nipping in the local shop.

Couldn’t care where they live as long as they turn up when they are meant too and put the effort in.

I live 15 miles from my work, would this be deemed unacceptable by some on here? Grow up.

Most contractors don’t “up sticks” and live close to their workplace.
They either commute or get digs, some do move their family
All depends on their family status, wife & children come first.
I spent 30yrs contracting and used various ways of living.
Some good, some bad …
I suspect this is what the BFC staff do.

If you insist that your contractor moves and lives at a certain distance from their work you will end up not getting that contractor to work for you.

Certain jobs excluded… Military, Emergency Services etc.

The new training ground is easily accessible via the A585 > M55 and the new Edith Rigby way links / A583.

As long as they turn up to training on time I couldn't care less where they commute from.
Probably better the players living far apart than all being in Blackpool to go out on the p*ss together constantly.

Like teachers living close to their school.

Loads of decent areas in Blackpool and the Fylde.

The whole area around Stanley Park up to Lawson’s Field
Carleton and Poulton le Fylde
Bispham

It’s not all Central Drive crack dens and run down terrace houses

Living in Manchester is fair enough - only one hour commute.

A lot of people prefer to live in the city - I know I do.

Plenty of beautiful places in the surrounding areas of Garstang and that’s only 30 mins from training.

20 year old millionaires have a different view on what makes an area attractive!! Bars, restaurants, clubs, high end shops, an abundance of young women and the opportunity to be a little anonymous is almost certainly a high priority- and being around people of a similar socioeconomic standing is also likely important.
Blackpool and the immediate surroundings don’t exactly tick any of those boxes in reality!
Slightly older players starting a young family would likely be easier to attract to the Fylde Coast but I certainly don’t think we need to or should expect footballers to live in the local communities

We stayed in Carleton a couple of weeks ago and thought it was a nice quiet place. It would certainly be on my list of places to retire to
