It's not your job as a supporter to make half arsed excuses for a terrible performance.

Why not just say it as it is? It was shit. It's up to Critchley to explain why we were so very bad.

I remember talking to a Bolton supporting mate of mine during their play-off last season. He was saying how ** horrible L1 is with 3/4 of teams putting everyone behind the ball and long throws etc.....

Most of the supporters (Inc me) expected change tonight, however Critch kept the same side.....

It's a tough league mr Mac and you'd better get your head around it 20 games in.

They all looked jiggered. Probably been on the piss for 2 days celebrating our win at Pompey. Unprofessional tonight (last night).

As the op said it's a learning curve which we still haven't go to grips with. This league is full of time wasting spoilers who disrupt and ruin games. We can't deal with them. We never have been able to.

League 1 looms for another season it seems all barring a miracle given the season so far.
 
We didn't play to our strengths, too many 5 and 6 out of 10 performances. Northampton put in a really good away performance, the pressing and closing down space was brilliant from them, they ran their bollocks off.
Throw in a howler of a back pass and we lose the game, without that we possibly sneak a 2 1 win, who knows.
Best not to get too down or up after every individual result.
 
The thing is I remember enough seasons when we were mid-lower table in this league and so it's actually nice to be at the right end!
I still think it'll turn out OK because we have a better squad than most sides - just need that fire in the belly which does seem to be missing from certain games.
 
i think we a lot of credit has to be given to Northampton. we had enough chances in the game to bury them but didn't take them. Nothampton harassed us from the get go. They stuck a man marker on Dougal, consistently got two on CJ, Spent a lot of time kicking KD and Dale, and the ref gave them no protection at all.

it does however point to a weakness that shows up a lot in that teams who really press us very high up the pitch will stand a chance of unsettling us.

i dont think we played that badly and like i said we had enough chances to not lose, and maybe win, one of those games but we have to stop having those types of game.

really feel for st james of husband. Probably his only error this season. get the feeling from the replay that Grimmy was daydreaming a bit.

Agree with that CP but you could see from the first half that the set up needed changing and fresh legs bringing on to give them something to think about at HT. That’s where Critch needs to think about the shape of the team and change things around and quickly rather than wait until too late in the game.

We have always done that in my 60+ years of supporting bfc.

Thought the same. Northampton were very good on the night. Stuck to their plan and made it an uncomfortable game. No surprise they won the game off our cock up as they were in our faces and putting the pressure on for it happening almost from kick off. I'd have enjoyed their performance if it wasn't us involved.

Right footed centre half at left back kept CJ in check knowing there wouldn't be anyone on the overlap. And limited the chances of the long ball over the top working. And shut down Carey's passing options knowing his out ball down the left is Owen Dale towing a caravan. Two right footers always make a wrong on that side.

Everyone I spoke to thought keeping the same team was the right thing to do. Earned the shirt etc etc.
 
I have to say . Its better to go to a game and think we should win ,but might not ,then be a city fan and expect to win every game and come away gutted they only won by 1 goal.
 
We remind me of the ‘hero wrestler’ from 90’s era WWF who has to get twatted by one of those steel chairs, only to make a vengeful comeback at the next Royal Rumble.

We’ll bounce back.

It needed something you're right, CJ didn't have much joy but he still created a few chances. Kd was being kicked all over the place, but was finding enough gaps to exploit. Probs a change in approach rather than personnel but god knows. Generally the evening was a bit depressing.

If we’re honest it’s Critch’s great failing, too slow to react and make changes. Jose would have changed it at the 35 minute mark !

We’re not as good as some people think, we’re not as bad as others keep making out. We’re an average League 1 side, we win some we shouldn’t and lose some we should win. We won’t be tearing up any trees in this division but we have probably found our level.

He seems hopelessly slow to read what's happening and react to his opponent's tactics. He's not helped by his assistants, or if he is, he doesnt listen to them. As for the players, we have some promising ones but why they are so brittle?
