The 4th Striker

So, my main bug bear at the moment is where is the 4th striker. Over summer, we had Lavery, Beesley and Yates - am personally not sure on Beesley (and I get the feeling Critch isn't either) and we swapped Yates for Joseph (imagine how prolific Jerry could have been this season!). However, the question remains - where is the 4th striker.

It was the same last year but we can't blame Mansford, Appleton or McCarthy.

Is there a Masterplan and someone coming in before 1st September which will explain it or have we just been negligent?

We only play with 1 striker so 3 in ample

When Jonson Clarke-Harris has been mentioned by our fans, I thought it was pretty rediculous and we had no chance at all. The Peterborough chairman said this on his podcast recently:

“But I have a figure I want for him and if it isn’t met he will stay here. I’m being realistic. I’m not asking for three to four million, but you are trying to buy the best goalscorer outside the Championship. He’s the GOAT (Greatest Of All-Time) in League One."

I thought he'd be accepting nothing less than £2/3m but it seems he's open to offers. He also stated that three League One teams have shown interest so far. I thought a Championship club would snap him up. I still think it's absolutely not going to happen, but maybe it would be worth pushing the boat out to try and sign him, using some of the Yates money. He is 29 but seems to be at the peak of his career and had been the League One golden boot winner twice. Even if we paid £2m, if he scored the goals to get us promoted it would be a good investment.

This is what is needed, rather than desired.
If the powers that be can’t see the glaring issue in that there doesn’t seem to be many in the squad who can score goals, then we can say bye bye to getting a good run this season until the next transfer window….
We just don’t seem to learn, which is troubling

If he made the difference between promotion and staying in League 1 it would be a no brainer, isn't it an extra 10 million now compared to League 1? Plus you have a Championship ready striker for the Championship.

Sounds like we're all in agreement. Someone let Sadler know and we'll get it all wrapped up so he can start next Saturday.

Doesn't matter if we sign Erling Haaland, if they're receiving nearly no service it's irrelevant.

The lack of chances created over the last couple of games, especially against Port Vale, simply hasn't been good enough.

It's not just the fee though, someone like Clarke-Harris will probably want minimum 10k per week and we won't be paying that.

Not only exactly what we need but imagine the boost it would give to the fan base. I'd love this to happen but in all honesty it's probably highly unlikely we would be prepared the splash that sort of cash.

It’s not just the 10k-12k per week it’s the other players contracts that might have equal top wage earner clauses in them and the effect on the whole squad budget and also the dressing room harmony when you have a major discrepancy between the top and bottom earners in the team . Not as simple as just splashing out £2,000,000 on a forward player even though it is drastically needed at the moment

No one at Blackpool FC has an "equal top wage earner clause" this isn't fifa or football manager.

There’s time yet in the window, and it’s poker face time. We will have several targets who clubs will be holding out for the best deal but starting to sweat if the player is on a one year. We will also have other players who we want but won’t become available unless the club they’re at sign their targets.

This is especially true for Prem and Championship. One big deal starts off a domino run. Chelsea have made big signings so will be shipping out more fringe and young players. Liverpool signed Endo so they’ll now ship out young DMs and the domino begins.

Couple of the agents I deal with nearly always insist on these clauses for their clients especially if they will be one of the top earners , maybe that’s why we can never get our transfer targets over the line as the club will not accept it
You will not believe some of the terms that are included in footballers terms even in the lower divisions , I know one player who is employed by a local club has a dog sitter on matchdays provided in his contract as well as a driver to return him home after the game ( about a 5 hour round trip ) !!

I hate us always acting like "little old Blackpool" and never showing ambition or any balls in the transfer market.

I know Saddler said, (in that interview while sneaking Critchley back in the door) he "won't spend money that puts the club in danger" or something along those lines.
However, it would be worth it, splashing a million or two on a striker if his goals fire us up to a title or promotion
We'd then make a lot more cash being back in the Championship next season.

Going on a free next season so reduced bids won't be dismissed

I have got slated for keep suggesting him.
maybe we could get him for around 2m?
Surely ideal for Lavery upfront & guaranteed 20+ goals! Scored more last season. Averages over a goal every 2 games last 3 seasons!
What price promotion?

We’ll there isn’t long left to bag a striker and although it’s true that the selling club may need to sell and the later it goes the more likely they are to accept a lower bid than their target price - they are also aware the buying club need to buy n may pay more than they want to as the deadline approaches. Ffs edit to add
Don’t fanny about on this and put offers in that are not piss takers. We are so desperate for a quality striker that we cannot afford to miss out.
Disclaimer: I’m sure the club have known this for some time tho.
