The Angel Gabriel......

Young and inexperienced. Shouldn't have started. Turton should have been there and Mitchell on the other side. Sims should have been playing. What has happened to Antwi ??

Good old reliable Spider quick to put the knife in. Yes his positional play left something to be desired against a skilful oppolent but in the second half he at least showed some determination and drive sadly missing elsewhere. Be balanced man....
He looked like he was running through treacle.....
First and foremost our defenders have to defend........
Gabriel was lacking today

Teddy Howe was good going forward last time he was given a chance. I don't recall him being involved in 3 goals against though. Why did we sign him?

Having finally rewatched the lowlights from Saturday a few times I dont accept he was at fault for 3 of the goals. The first was very good play and a worldie strike, he wont play any better players than Edwards on Saturday. For the second goal he actually tracked back, recovered and made a great tackle. we had a chance to clear and then Maxwell was then beaten near post...I cannot put that squarely on Gabriel's shoulders at all. He then improved markedly and helped create our goal before being caught out for the fourth when Edwards again punished his poor positioning. He had a tough afternoon but was nowhere near as bad as some make out. He will be fine as part of a settled back 4.

He was great going forward and put in some great balls.

I think you're being kind there TTP. He was beaten too easily for the first goal. Yes, it was well created, but he should be doing better there. For the second, he was caught out in a very bad place, that put everyone on the back foot and trying to desperately recover. Tough on the lad, but that's the truth of the matter.

I agree, Edwards was brilliant for Ipswich. He would have caused much better full backs than Gabriel trouble on that performance.

I think our troubles lie in other areas of the pitch, not at RB.

I watched the lowlights back and couldn't believe how exposed Gabriel was left everytime they attacked down his side, granted he didn't have a good game by any standards but surely after the first goal he should have been given more support.
There are some questions to be answered though, firstly, why did we even play this game if we didn't have too? Secondly why play Turton as a centre half when Thorniley played a full game there on Tuesday? and thirdly, when we were chasing the game, why bring on Williams?

I'm not sure Ward brings anything to the team, time for a change there i think.

He'll be better for the experience, chances are Ballard or Gretarrson will be thrown in next game and it'll be their turn to have a nightmare. I don't recall a start to a season like it for so many basic errors. Critchley will be learning all the time also, it is vital we see signs that both he and the players are learning.

Even the best / quickest full-backs get ripped for speed on occasions. Perhaps with experience he brings down the lad outside the box for the first goal.

The second goal he makes a good tackle and wins the ball, but you could argue he was pulled out of position and that the midfield should have been making that challenge. There was also no cover from CJ or one of the CH‘s shifting across to cover at RB.

Third goal was poor, forget the claims for a foul, nobody went to the ball and Maxwell really should have done better.

Forth goal, Gabriel had time to sort his body position, as the ball travelled a long distance. Again, he might bring the lad down, but more importantly, one of the CH’s should have been closer to provide cover.

The distance between defenders is too great, and any mistake is likely to get punished.

I thought Gabriel tried to impact the game in a positive way, very much like Mitchell has done on the left. Better going forward, which is generally the way of things in that position. Young lad, deserves our support.

Ultimately, I’ll be happy for mid-table and for our players to learn and develop, which includes making mistakes. The challenge for NC is to try to mitigate those mistakes by ensuring cover, so that they don‘t always lead to a goal.

He was to blame BIG time for 3 of their
Goals.....
No one can dispute that....
He had a chuffing MARE......
