Our woes

1. At the present time, Critchley appears incapable of learning. (Generally in nature that which fails to progressively adapt ultimately perishes). Following Husband's previous debacle, picking him at LCB again, and over Ballard, was an amateurish and costly decision.

2. At the present time, Critchley appears to be in denial about performances and results. And consequently he seems to be unwilling to contemplate any other set up than 4-3-3. Forum members have already pointed out other possible formations worth a try given the current playing staff.

3. At the present time, Critchley is apparently incapable of making telling and timely substitutions or, indeed, tactical switches of any significant kind. Moreover, there's the big overarching question as to whether he's the type of personality who can marshal, inspire and enthuse his players.

The answers

1. As many have already pointed out, Critchley would no doubt benefit from having an experienced assistant. Maybe, in turn, Garrity would be a better fit for youth supremo. It's always astute to play to people's strengths - on and off the field. Sacking people and starting all over again with all the upheaval that entails doesn't make sense at this stage. But the club has to act now and not leave things to deteriorate any further!

2. As many have already pointed out, the club would very possibly benefit from appointing a Director of Football to oversee all aspects of training, recruitment, management, etc. Perhaps such a role is more apposite to our requirements than a CEO, but that is obviously for the owner alone to decide. Maybe we can have both, but needless to say everything comes with a cost.

Could a new experienced face genuinely make a difference? Our history shows that Mortensen was a huge fillip for BFC after years of decline under Suart. So to was Ayre following Carr's brief stint and Grayson following Hendry. But on this occasion we could take a somewhat different course by quickly bringing in a 'sergeant major'.

Like almost everyone else I truly want Critch to succeed. I also want the players - certainly the majority of them - to succeed. But the time for a major tweak is upon us - not next month or even next week, but now.
