The best meal you’ve ever had

I had an excellent Beef Bourguignon in a French Restaurant called Le Bistro Des Amis in Skipton last year both me & my wife & dog enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind but I was going to have the crab, but it wasn't on that day. Obviously dog friendly too (downstairs only I believe) we will definitely go again this year when we stay there next. Nice place too.

Anywhere in Italy, the food is brilliant.
Arrived in Rome late one night (after 9pm) and went to a dodgy looking cafe / restaurant and ordered ravioli! One of the best meals ever. As they say you can count your best meals on one hand (or is that friends?), anyway it was the bollox 👍

Honestly never had a bad meal in Italy
From a little butchers down a back street in Florence to ending up at someones birthday party in a restaurant in Sicily!!

And everything inbetween
è stato tutto fantastico

My fave country and they are so proud and passionate about food. Having worked with Italians for 25 years they are chaotic but thats the way they are funny, laid back and so relaxed!

I went to Rome last year as a treat for my Wife’s 50’th. We ate out lunch & evening meal every day, including stumping up £500 + for the two of us in a Michelin Star restaurant…

We didn’t get a decent meal between the lot of them… Even the Pizza was crap 😂

On top of that it was quite possibly the dirtiest smelliest place I’ve ever been in my life.

My one and only experience of Italy ☹️

You’ve let the £500 bill you we’re stiffed for tarnish your opinion of Rome! You could have treated Mrsx3 with a much cheaper meal and more enjoyable outside of the tommy tourist areas!

Best meal is a tough one…

I’d probably say it was at Pardo’s in Magaluf and would have involved lobster main course 😋😋

Possibly… We ate all over the show though … plenty of places with good ratings etc.. all very disappointing really … In fact Rome as a place was disappointing

La Gavroche last year. Very expensive but worth every penny. Outstanding food, drink and service. Met Michel Roux and had a quick tour of his kitchen.
Incredible experience

Unbelievably unlucky there pal😕

Any where in my kitchen - cook loads of top top dishes

Couldn’t cook 3 years ago

My cooking shift is weekends and I do great veggie curries as good or better than anything you can buy for a twentieth of the price

I open 18:00 hours tomorrow evening cooking Graham Taylor’s favourite meal

I really struggled to find much that I liked in Sorrento, apart from my reactions to hot cheesy stuff 😳, I genuinely find Italian food awkward to find something I like. That's just me though. I did have Lobster in Venice though & TBF it was delicious.

Funny enough we did Rome for my wife's 50th.
She loves Italian food but every meal she ordered was a disappointment with far to much salt involved. Did enjoyed the city itself though.

We’re going to give Italy another go… Perhaps one of the big Lakes … As you say we obviously got really unlucky..
Lake Como is the better of the 5 lakes IMO, Lake Garda is also very nice but can get quite busy. Whichever you choose you won’t be disappointe 👍

Le Briccius in Brece, Normandy .Lovely long Sunday lunch on a beautiful summers day.The place looks like a bog standard bar from the front but at the back it was a nice restaurant serving good food and wine .

That was my experience of the food in Rome as well. I wouldn’t judge Italy on just that though. Been to Italy more than anywhere else outside the UK. Fantastic country.

Love Italy but I find its food a tad overrated. I personally prefer Polish or German fare with a fondness of pork knuckle and dumplings which I've had in both places. I also had a marvellous Turbot in Brixham many moons ago.

I had the taster menu at Fredrick V in Reykjavik where everything including the drinks was locally sourced that day and possibly in normal terms inedible… how on Earth it tasted so good I will never know?

In another note. Last week we got to Una Pizza Napoletana which was ranked joint first in the world for pizza

The chef Antony is obsessed to an unhealthy level in regards to the making and cooking of pizza.

If you’re ever in New York book in advance as it’s tough to get a seat for a place that basically makes only 4 or 5 basic pizzas 😂

About a year ago I found an amazing little place on the outskirts of town. It was lashing down with rain, a miserable night but I was starving. I’d heard a few people mention it but never thought anything of it. I pulled up in the car and it didn’t look like much but I was a bit stuck. It was an open kitchen, everything cooked in front of you, the head chef was as really accommodating, letting me customise my order, he even came and asked ‘one spoon or two spoon of chilli?’. I ran quickly back to the car with my order, the heat from it causing the windows to fog up. The food itself was amazing, succulent and melted in the mouth. I wiped one window just as it stopped raining and a rainbow appeared just to make the whole thing more memorable. The place was called The Armenian, if any one has heard of it.

Aggro

lol - I'm possibly the only fecker in the town who's never had an Armenian.

I saw a vlogger reviewing it just the other day, he was very impressed but at 15 of the Queens English his kebab should have been good.

I believe you can still get a Michaels/Curry Time/Shabzys or whatever the call it these days for £9.

You probably know what's in an Armenian kebab though !!!!!!!!!!

Burger King at Manchester airport after a two week holiday with the lads. Reckon I was on deaths door as I didn’t eat for about 4 days. Just got smashed. Saved my life. 😂

There is a thread on Bruges with someone asking what it's like. I'm going back pre Pandemic so about 7 or 8 years ago, we went to a wonderful little Bistro in Bruges called Bistro De Schilder. A lovely smallish Bistro where it pays to book. I had a dish which was Braised pigs cheeks in a sauce of Cherry Beer. To say it was out of this world would be understating the taste, it was absolutely excellent. We ate their a number of times on our stays in the city and always had a great meal, not cheap, but wonderful. However the aforementioned dish has never been forgotten or surpassed.

For the first time in a long time we decided to have fish & chips on Saturday. Went to Seniors Thornton for takeaway and had two cod, one chips and one mushy peas, £18.05! That was the first shock, the second was it was awful, the fish, which was lightly battered was so thin you could hardly see it, let alone taste it. I’ve been there before and it’s always been good, but on this evidence I won’t be going again.

I’m another who’s never had an Armenian, in fact I’ve never had a kebab.

I've been to that Senior's a while back and didn't think it was too bad.

Thornton Fisheries was always my favourite chippy but not been in for a bit and I'm told it's changed ownership and not as good as it was but I guess I should really try for myself and report back.

Went there a couple of weeks ago. Sat in and had fish chips peas bread and butter and tea.. £7!!! Everything was perfect. Then the other night had fish and chips takeaway locally (N Scotland) £9!!! and lousy compared to Seniors.
