Interesting reading the comments further down about younger fans being disengaged from this board because of miserable old buggers and their moaning comments. No internet when I was growing up but can never remember crowds booing, disenchantment or the abuse managers and players receive now.
I grew up with Billy Ayre as my hero and an utter love for Bamber, McIlhargey, Gouck, Sinclair, Horner and of course Davies - doubt if many had much technical ability and we had our fair share of defeats (my first away game we lost at Halifax 5-3!) and yet it didn't seem to evoke the response it does now.
