The Board’s (nice?) dilemma

Say McCarthy guides us to a dozen wins and takes us to mid-table whilst the whole time the board have been working in the background on this manager who will give us an exciting new future?

Do you ditch that man and persuade Mick to stay or do you stick with the plan?

Being a Kent resident, would he want to give up that up to flip flop between there and Blackpool?
I get the feeling this probably suits both parties although what I would say is that Blackpool is an infectious club and by May with warmer days and the beauty of the Fylde Coast who knows what he’ll decide.

I doubt he'd want it. A good run here could lead to a decent position in the South. Maybe even as a DoF type jobby.

I didn't realise Mick is a resident of Kent. There's obviously a non football related reason for choosing to live there.
Reminds me of when Pulis was working at Stoke & living in Sandbanks.
I assume part of the deal is the provision of a house in Lytham / St Annes.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, there's no guarantees. Even if we'd got Pep in! On the risk of repeating myself I do believe we have a better chance of survival now.

Ditch and move on. Not a long term appointment in my book.
Yep.
Some footballers are impact players.
MM is an impact manager.

But I can see him "going upstairs" afterwards to a DoF role.
The board are crying out for an experienced football man who's been there, done it.

What could happen as well, but this totally depends on who they have lined up, is that if all goes well with MM then he could stay on as manager and we put the new guy on the coaching staff as a sort of bedding-in period.

Obviously this totally depends on who the next guy will be. I can't see anyone going from being a manager wanting to take a step back, but for someone like Eric Ramsey it might be ideal.

Until that point though, let's enjoy our time with Mick, who I think is a perfect fit for us and us for him. UTMP🧡🤍🧡🤍

Im gobsmacked this has never been touched on before. Im sure the board and the previous lot have missed a trick by not keeping on certain ex players or ex managers as "advisories" or in modern terms D O F. Parkes is a prime example which you can blame squarely on the mismanagement of the Stains. I think not involving ex players like Bamber, Paul Stewart or maybe Ollie/Thompson are huge mistakes the club could look at rectifying.

You boys are dreaming. He’s on Fixed (good) rate for the rest of the season, and a a BIG bonus if we survive. Then he’s gone !

McCarthy has not ruled it out though!

"McCarthy told friends on Thursday that Blackpool is either his “swansong” or – if it goes as he hopes – might just end up being the start of another managerial journey."

Doesn't mean with us I think.

McCarthy is an old school manager and as he said in his interview, these days there's a lot of new formations and methodology in football and sometimes you know when it's time to call it a day. My Dad retired last year from a job he's had for 30 years for that same reason and he's only 62.

There really isn’t many jobs available in the top 2 divisions for Mick.

Most of the Prem clubs would be looking for an overseas appointment or a young up and coming British manager.

Maybe also the same in the Championship too? So are we talking about realistically maybe 20 clubs who would consider him? If so there’s then all the other managers that are available at that time (Dyche, Wilder, Plus overseas coaches etc) and if it’s a summer vacancy they’ll normally take a more ambitious (on paper) decision (ex player now ready to coach or lower league wining manager).

Basically how many jobs are actually ever available to him? If he wants to coach badly, a move up north for a couple of years of his life might be the best option he has.
