The Cheaper but better option

In these trying financial times and reduction in income from dropping down a league Dobbie must surely be considered to be the cheapest but best option for the club to grow. His wages wont be anything like the others being touted and also no compensation to be paid to any other clubs. He is obviously very aware of the talents in the youth team and will not be shy in getting them into the first team. This again will also save SS money and will form the basis of the team for a few years to come. If somebody else comes in I can see a lot of the upcoming talent leaving as they will never be given a chance which would be a real shame. In that case what is the point in having a development squad.

Dobbie will provide continuity that the club desperately needs after all the other upheavals recently. And he’s shown his credentials.
if they were to appoint a 34yo ahead of him that to me indicates a long term plan which doesn’t include Dobbie. He’s not going to hang around waiting for him to fail or move on. The players are back to square on proving themselves to yet another manager.
I just don’t see a single advantage to appointing someone else. Of course he might fail, but so might any of the others. Whoever is appointed is a gamble, so let’s hope the club do not overthink things. Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest.

Agree with a lot of that. I had the same thoughts last night.

It would have to be someone exceptional to be ahead of Dobbie.

Another thing the club need to be wary of is people using the club as a means of furthering their own careers, I.e. to get a better deal with their current or interested clubs. It happened last year and I’m sure they’ve learnt from that. With Dobbie that’s not going to happen

You don't think that if, in 18 months, Dobbs has got us back in the Championship and sitting comfortably in mid table, that an approach from a top club wouldn't turn his head? Or would it?

SS on the phone to Stephen........

"Hiya Dobbs, we're having a great season, you're doing a great job here pal BUT.. I've just had a call from Everton, they want to talk to you about the managerial vacancy there"

"Nay worry boss, I'm more than happy earning £30,000/week less here. Can't think of working anywhere else other than Blackpool"

🤔

Trafford isn't saying Dobbie wouldn't move on to a bigger club and better offer that's football. But in the past we've had Karl Robinson use us to leverage a better deal at Oxford (as did Branagan!) And last season Rosenior used us for a better deal at Derby.

Inevitable. Who wouldn't.....

Wellens did the same, bragging that he used us to get a new 2 year deal at Swindon.

I’m 100% certain that Dobbie is not using us to get a better deal elsewhere. That doesn’t mean he won’t accept something better if it comes along. I’m pretty sure there will be people on that list of potential managers (if the rumours are to be believed) who have little or no intention of coming here but see us as a good opportunity to get their names out there or get a better deal, or a contract with their current employers.

If it's our "model " to spot and sign talent then sell on for profit and future investment, that can apply to the manager as well. Problem last time was that we didn't invest the Critch compo.

Or perhaps, “I’ve just had a call from Everton about you managing them” Dobbs, “Why would I move to a club in a lower division” 😉
