The Flatmosphere

I used to sit on the front row of the West Stand in line with the 18 yard line at the Kop end with my dad in the very early 70;s and stood in front of us was a group of blokes who were there every home game and they were like a Waldorf and Stadler appreciation society, they moaned like fuck all the time but did it with a really great sense of humour, I can remember them clearly, even what they looked like, they used to have my dad in stitches. We have moaned like fuck ever since and probably before that and it is more part of the Blackpool way than the actual (mythological) 'Blackpool way"!

I used the love the old West Paddock more 80s for me though

There was a big difference between yesterday and the last home game I attended against Carlisle.

Not even a rendition of going down to Bloomfield road or day trippers yesterday I don't think.

I think the effect of the Christmas period just put a massive downer on things.

Atmosphere got better towards the end of the game though.
To be fair there were a lot missing yesterday for one reason or another - particularly at the younger end

Last season the football was crap, but we were fighting to stay up and were all desperate to get behind the lads in a relegation scrap. This season the football is crap and we have looked no better than mid table right from the beginning. It's hard to really go for it when we don't seen to have anything major to play for. If we were up in the play offs then the atmosphere would be 100x better, but were not. Hard to get the stands bouncing when we know even if we win were staying 8th.

I’m not sure why n cba reading the rest of thread but just adding that yesterdays atmosphere was the worst I can remember in the north. It added to the game being slow and boring as fuck. But I’ll be there even if the rest of the stand is empty.

Totally agree with the atmosphere been poor this season and absolutely dreadful yesterday. Personally I was still fuming from Friday and barely wanted to go, wonder if a few felt the same, bad mood and couldn’t get up for the game?! The stagnant football doesn’t really help either does it, not much passion on the pitch and mirrored in the stands. From my POV I just want to see a bit more effort and passion, like we never get angry on the pitch and fly into any tackles etc….you often hear comments like that’ll get the crowd going (if a great tackle is landed) we just don’t really do that.

Felt exactly the same, in fact I only decided to go at 20 to 3 and wasn’t really up for it at all until we scored. Fortunately they hadn’t already gone 2 up

I can only speak for myself, but I think a lot of it is to do with the optimism being drained from the fanbase.

When Sadler took over, there was understandably a wave of optimism which was built on by promotion to The Championship. However, the absolute cluster fuck last season and the relegation that followed has completely ruined that.

I'll get criticised by some on here for saying this, but the absolute facts are that in a couple of months, we'll be half a decade into Simon Sadler's custodianship, and we're in the same division as we were when he took over, and still talking about the need for a new training ground and rebuilding the East stand, without a foundation being laid on either.

Even if we do get promoted, the hierarchy of the club constantly talk us down and tell us how lucky we are that a club like Blackpool managed to survive a season in The Championship.

I'll still buy our season tickets and go to away games because I'm a Blackpool fan and it's what I do, but it's hard for me to muster much enthusiasm for the club these days.

That's not a personal attack on anyone, I'm just being honest.
You’re not alone.

There is one slightly seperate annoying thing, we in the north constantly have to look at a half empty, what appears rather lifeless south, it's a bit depressing.

Whereas the south get to see a full north, even now, and in the past usually bouncing.

Far better to look at when it's nearly full.

With a bit more effort the club could have got the extra fans in for me.
I look to the North from about 3.35 and its half empty. I've no idea how you all get in that crap concourse.

True enough. They were moaning in 1947 for signing the past it Matthews.

First of all let's start giving the bigger teams a minimum of 4k allocation as we are suppressing our home attendances/atmospheres , we have worked so hard to get decent crowds and to not give the likes of Carlisle more tickets is just dampening the match day experience

It’s crap because it’s totally sanitised now. Knew this would happen when banning orders get dished out for trivialities then people just think fuck it the club don’t want an atmosphere so why bother. Yes it was a bit chaotic but so what the rest of the ground loved it, but when the fun police and the jobsworths get involved it’s basically over know.

Spot on post

The atmosphere picked up in the last 15 when we started playing some nice stuff and the players were showing a bit of passion. One example was Morgan absolutely flying into a challenge and winning the ball, didn't expect a hard challenge from him! When the players started showing a bit of something, the crowd reciprocated.

That 2nd goal in front of the North looked like a big release for some of the players, a lot of gesturing to the stand during the celebrations. It must be strange for the players who have been here a while to have witnessed the drop in atmosphere and mood around the club.

There's a few things contributing I reckon:

1. High expectations
I was worried during the summer that the level of expectation could be detrimental to the mood around the club. Many thought we were gonna win the league so unless you're showing that kind of form, anything less will be disappointing.

2. Critchley dislike
Many don't like Critchley after he ditched us, and will never change that opinion. Some were probably willing to forgive with success and we're doing pretty average.

3. Boring football
The football isn't the most inspiring brand so is hardly lighting a fire under the crowd's arse. If we were doing well, it probably wouldn't matter, but we aren't.

-

Now combine the fact people had high expectations with the reality that we're doing average, playing a boring style of football under a manager many don't like. Last season's mismanagement and relegation will have took the wind out of our sails as well.

That being said it's a bit pathetic people aren't getting behind 'em to the extent that they aren't, all things considered it isn't going to be rocking but you can show some support at least.

It's not banning orders, it's circumstances, explained in the thread.

Do we still have a drum at every home game? I genuinely can't remember hearing it some games this season.

Also, I would say the atmosphere this season has definitely not been up to usual standard.

I reckon his enthusiasm for it has gone.

I remember one of the lads from the bottom of block B walked to the top of the stand and started having a go at him last season during our relegation scrap, words to the effect of they're doing their bit and he isn't doing his.

Sometimes the drum would help lift an atmosphere if it was falling flat before. Feels like he can't be arsed at times now, might be time to pass the baton (or drumstick!). Not necessarily a bad thing on his part, he's been doing it for as long as I've been going, as you get older I imagine your enthusiasm for doing something like that would naturally dwindle.

Agree with all of this. Grey men at every level of the club who are fixated on attaining mediocrity and in doing so sucking out the joy, excitement and optimism.

something missing this season from the fans but think a run of 4/5 wins on the bounce will change that, a belief that we going up.

True story l, was one of my mates.

I was watching on iFollow as had the dreaded lurgy and the amount of times Thommo said we need to get the quick and creative players on the ball, running with it and getting shots in to get the crowd going was mad. I thought at one stage he was going to go and do it himself.
It is obvious at home how to get a crowd going and yet we seem reluctant to do it either through the manager's instructions or the players reluctance,

Nothing will get the crowd going until we still competing away from home.
