The football club - Blackpool FC

If he does post on here I don’t know how he finds the time.
I’m just a partially retired middle aged mum, grandma and ex housewife 😆 and I’m too busy to get really stuck in on avftt most days now.

Edit to add, I became a granny at 41, so not as old as that sounds 🥴

That the posts were not what you would expect from a average poster…all were defensive of the club and nothing on any other subject…pretty much that fans don’t know what happens inside BFC or how a football club runs… Obviously he must 😉
It is going to be a WUM I think or someone with real problems, it is unfathomable to think it is anyone involved with the club, I think that needs nipping in the bud now.

I normally keep my posts short and sweet… no excess energy used 😀

Great post Phil.... It seems very many of our fan base are on the same page. Just wish the club would listen and act.
The lack of excitement about anything around the club at the moment is shocking.
A lot of people at Blackpool FC need a long hard look at how they are approaching their roles at the moment and that starts from the very top.
We all want them to be doing their jobs better and create something we all want to get behind and genuinely excite our fan base.

Yeah it does appear we are a bit more united, i notice even BST have gone back to the club regarding the ludicrous fans charter

That surprised me, maybe they didn't feel they were getting a large enough slice of the pie

Might be a bit of a long post this as I'm sat on a train

Listening to the Seasider podcast last night got me thinking this morning, so i thought i would share some thoughts based on some of the stuff i heard and read last night on the podcast and also some of the Twitter content I've seen this week

Firstly i thought the podcast was pretty decent, to be honest i don't always listen to it as it comes across a bit dull sometimes with the same blokes saying the same things week in week out, however last night was good

The Raggy speech was fantastic and summed up some of how i feel about the goings on at our club, Andy with his marketing background also made some really good points that i agree with and i urge fans who haven't listened to it to give it a whirl, i think there were less than 200 people watching it last night so not massive numbers

In the words of that tw@t from Dragons Den this is where I'm at

Firstly I'm not anti Simon Sadler, this is something that I've been accused of recently and I'm not. I was actually pleased when he bought the club and I've been supportive and critical in equal measures i think. When he first bought the club he did what i think was right in getting rid of his first manager Grayson and bringing in a fresh faced younger coach in Critchley, it was difficult for NC in the early days and his inexperience showed and it wasn't until he changed his formation and playing style that the results improved. Simon Sadler was also instrumental in this early journey by backing NC in both transfer windows with some really good loans like Ellis Simms and some key experienced players like Kenny Dougal who had been playing at a higher level. We paid money for young hungry players like Marv, Jerry and Keshi who were all key to our promotion. Promotion was very much a joint effort between the owner, board and coach, the fans played a small part as it was mainly during covid but Oxford at home and the win at Wembley were fantastic. ALL LOOKED GOOD ........

We had a feel good factor about the place as the club went into the new Championship season on a high, we made some decent signings but mainly focusing on younger players who had been at bigger clubs, Josh Bowler being the main man and what a delight he was to watch, a couple of decent loans in Ryan Wintle and Djon Sterling but if I'm being honest looking back we were still a little short in key areas. The first half of the season was good, we had some great results and away days and it really felt like the club was aligned with fans buying in to the process, the North stand and the work done by a few individuals to get that stand rocking was something really special, it was probably the most passionate home end in the country.

Then something changed in my opinion around January time, i was a poor transfer window and we looked a bit under cooked in several positions, NC also looked like he had lost his mojo a bit, it was strange as we weren't actually that far from the play off places and the season just fizzled out, losing at PNE was one of the worst performances i can remember for a long time, bizarre post match interviews form NC and club just seemed dead with very little coming from the board or owner

NC left amid some rumours about a lack of backing from the owner and we went into the new season looking miles off, poor marketing from the club at season ticket time and a ludicrous match day price point didn't help the mood. I've also never understood why the club don't do a 12 month direct debit option like other clubs do, Andy and Raggy spoke about this last night. It was a right mess from top to bottom, poor signings, a new old manager in Appleton (who the fans were never going to get behind) and a shed full of loan players it was a cluster fuck of incompetence from top to bottom. We heard very little form the owner whilst the ship was sinking and any feel good factor from the start of the season before had gone. it was like people at the club just weren't @rsed

And so it continued

Relegation was nailed on and McCarthy was probably up there with our worst ever manager and that takes some doing when you consider idiots like Carr, Clark, Hendry and Riga

We still heard very little from the owner unless of course it was the NC welcome back interview or the telling off to fans, NC was always going to divide fans just like the MA appointment its almost like its been done on purpose

This season hasn't been much better than last season and that takes some doing, boring football, poor tactics and players played out of position, losing Yates was a blow as he was the heartbeat of the club, similarly with Dougal and this January transfer window was garbage

The club is just sleep walking again and everything we as a fanbase fought for appears to be lost, the atmosphere at games is poor and some crowds have been really low we as a club have become as dull as dishwater, you only hear from the club when they want something and all this talk of fans parliaments and charters are a complete waste of everybody's time and effort except of course for the 3 FSA people who appear to run BST and their 800 members, they love all this sort of shite

We are a unique fantastic club in the party capital of the UK and when we are all united we are hard to stop, we have a fantastic passionate support that is dwindling and this malaise needs to stop NOW, even my kids aren't that bothered about going to matches, Port Vale and Burton in a week saw to that

I want to hear from Simon Sadler, i want to know what the plan is for the future, i want to know what's happening with the stand and training ground projects, I want to know how the club is going to get back to how it was 2 and a half years ago and i want to know what is going to happen with our current manager who appears to have lost his mojo again' he either needs help or sacking as the whole club is in a steady decline.

I expected better from life long fan Simon Sadler (if some cnut thinks that makes me entitled then so be it its nonsense word used by folk with zero ambition anyway)

Lets get this club back aligned and everyone moving in the same direction, it has to come from the top though

Over to you Mr Sadler
You missed out the fact that in Neil Critchley first season, after the appalling start, bringing Colin Calderwood in as his no.2 was the start of our promotion push. The following season, it was Stuart McCall who helped him to keep us up.

If it was, which I don't think it is, then we are in a lot more trouble than we thought. Some of his messages to me have been reported and removed because of the outrageous statements he has made on here to some supporters including myself. I don't believe for a minute it's SS, that would be madness but it is what I said earlier, the rumour mill will get out of hand and loads of Conspiracy theories will become gospel on here and that is only going to lead to one thing. Why are we starting to unravel again?

I have had contact from the club on a couple of occasions in the last 10 months firstly they wanted to have a video call with me about a comment which was made on here (at the time other supporters were being pulled up over criticism of the club) and another issue where I was threatened with being banned from the club, something that I believe stemmed from a certain poster on here trying to cause trouble. I was able to deal with these and I am not banned but on the second occasion I did say I didn't care. if they banned me as I was pissed off with how the club was behaving.
Bloody hell, this isn't a good look from the club.

How many people is that they have tried to silence now?

It's really the terrible football that's leading to all this frustration. Critch is a coach not a manager. I can understand why SS feels he is the man to build the coaching structure for the long term but he really does need help when it comes to playing matches. The football has been mainly dire, even when we went up in the lockdown season.

Most home matches, even the wins, have been dire, and I dread to think what our league position would have been without the Jordan Rhodes goals this season.

I agree it starts with the football as its a results business but all the other things are also important and are a catalyst for what goes on on the pitch

TBH, NC is neither a coach nor a manager at the moment.

No doubt his strength is in coaching and it's possible he'd make a good senior coach in a mid c/ship club.

Yeah there's much that could be improved.

Fan engagement, filling the stadium, growing the fanbase, general communication and marketing etc.

I guess though the club would say those meetings are where they inform people and the new fan thing is the start improving that... whether it's right or not yet.

The east and TG is awaiting 2 councils doing different work, although it would be good to hear more about what happens next. Clear vision.

It was mentioned in the recent notes about different stand designs coming back based off the minimum of 3,600 seats...

But we do need a bit more clear direction from above at times.

As for signings, the club will no doubt point to some of the better signings and also to what SS said in his video, of us wanting to get back up. That is the aim and we're so far failing.

I think we have brought in some decent players this season and a lot of people's issues probably rest with the manager and the way we've played at times, a manager SS obviously championed, but who hasn't got the most out of what we have away from home, too predictable.

Going back was never going to create the buzz that sold tickets wildly unless he managed to get us firing and right up there, he was always going to get a bit less time.

Yep good post

"Fan engagement, filling the stadium, growing the fanbase, general communication and marketing etc." Is bang on and one of my biggest grumbles

Even when an idea is mentioned some people think it's fans wanting freebies or why should the club do that, but it's not about me or any harcore fan really.

The ideas I and others mention is about attracting the fans who attend rarely or even not at all, the casuals should be win win really, if most aren't attending anyway.

I would have liked to have seen far more of that sort of thing, as we are a club who went through unique things that really damaged the fanbase and although we've gained something back after a couple of championship seasons, there's far more to do.

It also needs winning football ideally or a brand of football to get behind.

Actually winning promotion with fans in attendance will help massively.

Get fans in, on the system and then there's far more chance of some returning.

I think that’s what really fired me up the other day, when I saw the 3,600 East stand thing. It just feels like ‘Fans’ and the ‘Fanbase’ have somehow managed to get completely lost in whatever it is that we are trying to achieve….

Either that or the people we have at the club and making these decisions really have no clue about the Club itself or the likely potential.

In terms of the marketing … obviously a lot of the stuff they do is maybe on line, but speaking as a local and a customer, for the most part, Blackpool residents wouldn’t even know a match was on unless they went out of their way to find out. Contrast that to tin-pot outfits like AFC Fylde, who’ve got massive Bill-Board visible posters in local town centre, encouraging support.

Yep, pisses me right off that billboard by the Swan advertising their games and match day prices. Just because we don’t do anything like it.

I remember seeing the nobbers advertising in one of their shopping centres, for their ST campaign.

Tbf the cost for a billboard maybe cheaper in Kirkham centre as about 12 people visit there, whereas the Blackpool hotspots are possibly far more popular to big brands and maybe cost more, given the huge visotor numbers. No excuse even if so as plenty of areas to do it where locals live and will see, posters etc. Also i think theres maay local businesses that would help, even the council too who they work closely with. Also viral marketing, deals to get new or lapsed fans through the door.

I go back one I've mentioned before where existing fans can bring, friends and family who aren't regular attendees or new fans. Something like that where people who wouldn't be coming anyway are then enticed in and some come back and are then on the system to send marketing to and also then can attend the big previous purchase history games that are the biggest draw.

If any club needed stuff like this it's us.
