The ludicrous EFL Trophy Final

Doesn't matter it won't be the same manager or players and yet last year's EFL Trophy goes ahead with the Champions being thus for 24 hours!

Portsmouth and Salford will finally get the chance next month to contest last season's Papa John's Trophy final at Wembley, but the winner will be holders for only 24 hours.

In an unprecedented move for the competition, the English Football League revealed plans on Thursday for a 'Wembley Weekender' where the 2020 and 2021 finals would be played on successive days in March.

The 2020 final was due to take place last March but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and not rearranged for before the start of this current campaign.

Absolute bollocks of epic proportions. People are on vast salaries to come up with this kind of senseless tripe.

Trying telling the players it is ludicrous when they get a chance to play at Wembley.I certainly enjoyed our trips to Cardiff for the then equivalent of the competition even the Golden goal away win at Huddersfield in one of the semi finals and Burden Park would have never had the Russell Coughlin Stand😉😉
OK having no fans there will make it much less special this time round( on both occasions) but it is still a trophy to be won and I am sure the players will be up for it.
Personally I would much prefer if the Under21 Premiership teams were omitted and replaced by the equivalent number top teams from the National League clubs from the previous season including the two relegated ones from league2 as this might spice it up a bit for me.

There aren't enough cup finals to go round anyway, so we can't have ones that never happened being scrapped. If it was us we would want to play. We could be the one and only champions for a day.
With it being the Papa Johns final would everyone have to wear Hawaiian shirts?

No I think that would be coercion, and would be wrong.

But better than everyone in club uniform though when I think about it, so possibly a good idea. Everyone could have a deliveroo backpacky thing with beer and pizza I guess. It's all getting a bit American now though. Not sure plumbs!

Weird. Hadn't even realized that last seasons final didn't take place. I suppose this is the about the best option they can come up with, although certainly far from ideal. Can't imagine the winners of the first final being too ecstatic knowing that they will hold the trophy for only 24 hours.

Maybe the two winners should then play each other in a charity shield type affair? Raise some money from iFollow subs for a good cause.

What happens with cup-tied players? Using us as an example if players like Yates, Anderson, Ekpiteta, CJ, Robson etc. played in the competition last season for their respective clubs they can't be eligible to play for us in what is effectively last year's final.
