The main reason we're not in the playoffs

The return from the forwards.

39 goals between the 5 of em in all competitions.
15 from one player highlights the problem.

We are just not able to convert the chances that come their way.
Alfie May 20, Devante Cole 17 and Jamie Reed 17 all scoring goals for fun, dare I say it Colby Bishop has 16!! All league 1 goals🤷

We need 3 bloody good strikers next season who can all find the net.

I remember some on here said both Bishop and Cole wouldn’t make the step up. 🤣

Rhodes 15 not scored in 12
Other attacking options in starting lineup 15

Cole 17 not scored in 9 benched

🤔🤔🤔

83 minutes we finally took 1 of 3 CBs off.
Maybe we will stick our neck out and go for 422 or even 433 for an equaliser.

Nah Gabriel come back as part of the back 3, we need to keep the 5 at the back …

There lies the problem

Didn't envisage Jordan Rhodes not scoring for what seems like an age at all,but our other strikers all seem to suffer from not having a decent first touch
TBF Joseph's movement off the ball and the spaces he makes had me thinking we'd got a good un.
But at the end of the day a striker is rated on the goals he scores and he's hasn't 🤷

We need to create chances first though. That was garbage from start to finish today, and the three amigos didn't have a clue what to do about it.

Same as all season. Bit dodgy at the back, poor up front. The movement from our players is non existent. Its no wonder we have to go back so much cos there's never anything ahead of anybody. It's just all so beige. Nobody Dembele apart (but he was poor today too) has anything about them at all.

Rhodes is clearly a great goalscorer but things just haven't gone his way at all since extending his stay. Had they have done, he'd be on a lot more goals than now. Beesley with 8 isn't too bad for a second highest goalscorer, he just doesn't have enough to step in and provide what Rhodes can when he's on form. I don't think many teams in the league have two strikers with the quality of Rhodes though.
So do I think it's the main reason? No. I think you're making that conclusion based on what things have felt like lately rather than the picture of the whole season.

I'm trying to work out whether Joseph, Lavery and Beesley are average or inconsistent, because at times they've all shown flashes of brilliance. In particular I think back to Lavery's form when he first arrived, a division above where we are now, and also what he was looking like pre-season, and wonder why we haven't had more from him

If we created a hatfull of chances every week then you can criticise the forwards.

When you consistently have 90 minutes without having a shot then the problem lies with the tactics and the way the team is set up. Compounded by the fact we have a one dimensional manager who refuses to change tack when Plan A obviously isn't working.

He has no plan B though, clueless.

Just back. What a very frustrating game to watch. I think if we were still playing now, it would still be 1-0. We just didn't look like scoring.

O/p is right in that our strikers just aren't firing. We improved 2nd half but Joseph's header from the set piece, and Laverys shot wide after a good turn and run were both disappointing. Both efforts should have at least been on target. That said, we just don't create enough chances away from home at all.

Agree that the manager's away "tactics" is the main reason we'll be in L1 next season.

The manager’s insistence playing wingbacks and unable to change things clearly due to a lack of quality wide players in the squad illustrates the problems we have when a change of tactics is needed. Minor details and a tight game he says ! . Well Niel there are now 8 teams better of than you and your running out of time.

No fucker controlling midfield since Dougall stopped playing obviously isn't the reason! 🤪

We currently have better midfielders so why are we not controlling the midfield better?
Was Dougall performing despite the Manager's instructions? Did he leave because of the manager's instructions?
Has the manager's instructions changed?

Same formation week in week out - teams know exactly what they are up against . Inability to change tactics and subs at the crucial times

Totally agree. Look how Lincoln have surged past us. Scoring for fun

Away tactics, performances and results. The manager gets it wrong more often than he does right on the road. The players lack the character required to play with freedom. No matter how poor the tactics are, it shouldn't prevent our players from passing 5 yards or being able to hit the target from less than 10!

If you don't feed the ball into the strikers where they can use it, they cannot score. If they are helping the defence, they cannot score. If the midfield is defensive only, they cannot score.

We have probably the most gifted player in the league in Dembele, yet play defensively so often. When they are allowed to go all out, this team can beat anyone in the league.

I think the career to date goals per appearance ratio provides the best indication of a forwards goalscoring ability.
Both Lavery and Joseph are 1 in 5/6 so they're unlikely to be the answer.
Beesley has scored a few but not many in the league. Kouassi is young and raw but unlikely to make the grade.
Rhodes 34, his race is almost run.

I expect the same thing was said about Billy Sharpe, Kevin Phillips and Jamie Vardy at that age🤷
