The McCarthy effect

Anyone who doesn’t work in Lancashire must know this when they are surrounded by Prem fans in the office who talk incessantly about the Prem at the weekend and just occasionally will ask (in ignorance) how Blackpool did. Add to this the classic “Who do you support” “Blackpool” followed by “Who is your manager these days?”

Today office colleagues and clients have been wanting to talk to me about Mick McCarthy. I really hope he keeps us up but if he doesn’t at least he’s put us back on the football map.

I can’t remember a more experienced and well known manager here, Stanley Mortensen was famous, but not an experienced manager.
Totally agree...I said the same thing yesterday. Just need to be a bit more savvy on the pitch instead of being such a nice team .

The disciplinary table doesn't agree with you there. We've been far from a nice team this season but players struggling at this level and playing out of position with no game plan and no encouragement from the bench all season hasn't helped matters.

My wife's a Wolves fan . " I love Mick" Most Wolves do. I got dragged to a Wolves match and they lost 5-0 at home to Southampton and the fans were stil singing " Super Mick McCarthy" at the end. I know they're a bit thick in the Black Country but I was impressed

Unsurprising given it's big news and has excited a lot of pool fans and hit a much wider audience too.

Up at 3 million views now on the Blackpool twitter announcement post.

McCarthy is a figure of fun to many. A lot of that due to the showdown in Japan in the World Cup in 2002 with Roy Keane and accusations by him that Micky boy wasn't really Irish. Amongst other accusations of McCarthy incompetence by ego maniac Keane.

And an up and down career record also adds to the reality that it's hit or miss what happens next with McCarthy.

Hopefully it's time for a hit and he can get us moving up the league table starting tomorrow.
