The Neil Critchley pause

And that's how you give the impression of knowing what you're talking about, rather than diving in with a quick answer.

I can see him drawing deeply on a pipe before answering while looking into the middle distance over the interviewer's shoulder.

That's the approach Trump adopts, but then he says something stupid.

3 second pause while looking down at the ground. Slightly lifts head...
Yep!

He always has a big twinkly grin for the interviewer, then cocks his head on one side to listen with a serious face... then the pause, first a nod as if acknowledging validity of the question, then a look to ground.... then lift head, fix eyes on middle distance, start answer slowly then gain headway and pace...

I like to imagine him answering "tea or coffee Neil?" in the same way.

The way he tilts his head to one side, pauses, nods a little before he responds all remind me of Richie Benaud. Wrong sport I know but he just reminds me of him

In his earliest interviews he wouldn't look at the interviewer, just anywhere else. To me that comes across as either being shifty, uncertain or ill at ease. Latterly his eyes have become more engaging with the interviewer as, I suspect, he begins to relax into his role.

So Neil, we lost again. You must take some positives from that performance though.

Pause. Mental note to quote posession statistics as evidence we controlled the game.

A few new faces in Neil?

Pause. Mental note to say been tracking them for a while and known from their academy and will need time to adjust to our next level intensity training.

rinse repeat

A new version - a pause midway through answering the first question! I think he forgot the pause tonight, then remembered he'd forgot it so he added it part way through.
