The purpose of life

Purely from a mammalian species perspective it is to procreate in order to preserve the species. Metaphysically, I don't believe there is a purpose. Philosophically, within the context of the human condition it is to improve the species' chances of survival whilst doing so in a way that meets our needs for interaction: sexually, emotionally and intellectually.

There isn’t one although some people try to create one for themselves. So for some it’s the acquisition of money, power and status. For others it might be religion and a fictitious god. Or family and friends. Or a football club.

But ultimately we’re still insignificant organisms. Existing on a rock spinning somewhere in a vast, cold and uncaring universe. Who will soon die and, in two or three generations, completely forgotten.

Which leaves you with two options.

Be miserable and angry about it. Or

Try to be happy - the pursuit of happiness.

Personally I prefer the second as it’s a pleasanter way to spend the short time left to us in this life.

Existentialism

There is no meaning of life but every individual can find meaning in life.

That Hitchens was a great speaker btw.

"Philosophically, within the context of the human condition it is to improve the species' chances of survival whilst doing so in a way that meets our needs for interaction: sexually, emotionally and intellectually." If that's true '66, the way we are going the human race is well and truly screwed!

Hope not Eagle but I get your point.

Dinosaurs were around a lot longer than humans have been. By some margin.

Take out the “emotionally and intellectually” and I expect most dinosaurs would agree with the above. Except that they can’t because, as far as we know, they couldn’t read.

Lesson? Humans overthink stuff.

Your bucking the trend though Mex.

I've always wanted to try Conan's mantra, but the opportunity has never arisen:
