I wish people would lay off Appleton, saying he needs to get things sorted. The problem is most of the team can't do the simple things: control the ball first touch, look for a man in space and find him with a decent pass, take a good free kick/corner. You can't blame Appleton for that. perhaps those that say recruitment has been piss poor have it right. Sadly effort is not enough.

I'll give him a few basics.

Don't let Dougall take corners.

Don't play 3 strikers at the same time ever again.

The rest he can figure it out himself.

Could I ask who is the head coach?
 
A turgid game tonight lacking in quality from both sides. Superb stops from Maxwell and Jerry Yates battled away to no avail.

Agree but not sure about recruitment. You can see the players pre match at half time and on the training ground doing passing sessions but when they get on the pitch it doesn't happen?

I can't quite get your take on this it's almost like you are saying we have a good manager and crap players but your beef is with people who say we have a crap manager and decent players ?
I'll can't see Appleton winning manager of the month this season some of his decision making baffles me and the players by the looks of it.

Especially them 3, Lavery was terrible. Madine wasn't much better but Yates should of been closer, out wides not his strongest position. Corbeanu made a massive difference and Poveda should of came on a lot sooner.
 
I’m not in full agreement but I know what he means Appleton is at fault when we’re shit but when we do well it’s down to the players. They spent a lot of money compared to what we do and there wages will be triple at least, so we’ve gone there and been just as good wether people like the system and starting 11 or not we’ve been fairly decent the last 2 games, much improved.

Yep its like what ever Appleton does he gets criticism and all because he left us once

People need to get over that and support the ** team

l would say Appy got it tactically very wrong against Rotherham and Millwall, and when we’ve been poor in the first half like tonight he’s tweaked things and changed us into a very different and threatening team like tonight!.

To be fair its not the worst thing hes been called both to his face and on here but he is certainly a passionate diehard fan...I will be honest and say I didnt fancy it tonight when I have work tomorrow so fair play to anyone who made the effort...I did have a decent bet on nil nil though so not a bad result

I'm sure he is but he doesn't know me and is making random comments to someone who's consistently travelled the length of the country following Blackpool.

Lavery is not a winger; didn't beat a man once tonight. Poveda should have had at least 20 minutes run out in the latter stages.

They were there for the taking second half.

Agree he did get them wrong but the starting 11 for those 2 games especially rotherham didn’t do the basics right in terms of attitude and desire, Saturday and tonight has been better we have 2 really tough games coming up if we can get 3 points from them going into hull and the Nobbers then hopefully there’s a better feel around the place.
Still not at Darlington so a late night for me😵‍💫

Before halftime, they said that all our back four were struggling and we only had one defender on the bench.
As attack is always said to be the best form of defence, we defended so well in the second half that we restricted them to one chance in the dying embers of injury time. We just never managed to score a deserved winner, but I felt proud of them tonight. The effort we have put in over the last two matches, to only get one point is sickening.

I'm guessing Poveda & Theo may have been carrying slight niggles, hence only coming on for a short time. Looking forward to Saturday a bit more after that second half. I think we're capable enough, when we actually get going, just need the goals to start flowing sooner rather than later.

To be fair to Appleton, the former Messiah Critchley, baffled us all last season with some of his decisions so its nothing new.
 
MA will need investment in January. What people are saying above about players not being able to do the basics right is the gospel truth.

I just really, really hope that the board change their ways and give him some funds to bolster his squad with players he sees fit. If that means shipping a few out to free up wages, then that will have to be it.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Bridcutt come into the team, hopefully he can bring a composed head in. A midfield of him, Patino & Wright would look good and give good balance.

Special mention to Patino last night, thought he did a great job in a holding midfield role. Wright also looked full of energy.

I'll be back sat in my armchair on Bloomfield rd Saturday, if we sit deep and invite pressure like that against Watford we won't be getting back into the game. Luckily Sunderland had nothing up front if they had it would have been a difficult watch on the telebox. The sky red button is a wonderful thing when you do a 12 hour shifts to pay for your families 3 season tickets.
