The Reckoning

Nonses and peopdophiles get too much publicity. The victims are the ones who should get the air time not the filthy monsters. Once caught and 100% banged to rights the bastards should be pelted to death with bricks from the family's involved. This country is too soft on this disgusting subject.

Not something I plan to watch really. The irony of it all is that every kid of that era knew and joked that he was a wrong un yet so called adult professionals didn't.

I'm avoiding it.

Back in the day, I thought he was a queasy creep. Add in what we know now, and there's no way I want to watch any portrayal of him, however bad it makes him (or those who turned a blind eye) look.

Watched the first episode, but it's hard to watch more than one at a time because of the subject matter. We can only hope that this can never happen again because victims are getting better support and feel like they can tell the world. To some extent, the recent 'mixed' reactions towards Brand suggests its still stacked against the victim.

I watched half an hour, but it really isn’t for me. What a bastard.

That aside, from what I did see, a phenomenal portrayal from Steve Coogan. Stunning really. The likeness had me believing it was Saville from the off.

May he rot in hell, Saville, not Coogan.

Agree on all counts. I don’t think we are learning as fast as we should.

It is a pity that the BBC didn't include the period just after his death, when they pulled a Panorama expose of him and instead did a tribute to him! Despite them knowing what he was like. Quite shocking and reinforces the fact that failure to tackle him allowed him to get away with far more crimes.
Maybe because the drama is on BBC🤷

Watched it all on Sunday… We all know the story tbh, but an interesting watch which gave a sense of the creepy old weirdo.

It all seems so obvious with the benefit of hindsight and the net was obviously closing In towards the end, however most of us didn’t really have a clue, if we’re being honest.

Clearly his behaviour did not go unnoticed and yet barely anyone spoke out and those who did were obviously suppressed or ignored.

I’m not convinced it couldn’t happen again tbh.

If his victims wanted nothing to do with it then they wouldn't want to appear in it, which they did.
Maybe, but it could be they didn't feel they had a choice . . . . Damned if you do, damned if you don't

All I know is that as a victim of abuse myself (not by Saville, I hasten to add) I certainly wouldn't want to go and discuss it on TV

Everyone's different mate

Watched the first episode last night on iPlayer. Had intended to binge watch, but found it too disturbing, especially the little girl in the hospital bed.

Fantastic performance by Steve Coogan. I initially expected him to go into Partridge mode, but soon forgot it was him, and almost thought I was watching Saville.

I will watch it to the end- eventually.

The victims seemed to be motivated by a desire to prevent this type of thing from ever happening again and certainly weren't being exploited at all.

I remember an interview with Saville years ago, talking about his club in Leeds. He suggested that he was more than happy to get stuck in and do the bouncers job. he then said, and this has stuck with me all those years, "I have a dark side" . With the benefit of what we know now, was he boasting, teasing, or admitting? Not sure I could cope with watching this, like with the Ripper programme.

Why has he not posthumously had his knighthood revoked?
Doesn't affect him ( obviously) but would at least show the public that something has been done, albeit way too late.

As you probably know, I live in Leeds and when he died, his coffin was on display in the Queens Hotel. Loads went to pay their respects. I certainly didn't. He was always a wrong un in my eyes.

How did the BBC miss what he was doing, he parked his camper van in their car park. A chilling and disturbing series but Coogan will surely win some awards

A knighthood simply ceases to exist when someone dies. It only has meaning as an honour to someone alive. So it isn’t actually possible to strip a K from a dead person.

Savile should never have been awarded a K in the first place; Thatcher was given plenty of warnings not to by her civil servants. But he had numpties like Prince Charles pressing his case as well.

I think I’d better change my username. And sell the campervan.

I met him and a lot of other 'Stars' during my years in Hotel Management, Most were strange in their own different ways, but he stood out as being weird. I wasn't at all impressed with him.

Watched it over the weekend.
Mrs Wizz said she never liked him always came across as a bit of a weirdo, never watched any of his programmes.

The program itself (the reckoning) was an uncomfortable watch.
The girl who reported him to the police after being subjected to a sex act in the back of his car and was subsequently sent a letter saying the case was going no further was shocking to say the least.
As others have said, hindsight is a wonderful thing ,how the filthy bastard was able to do what he did in plain sight is unbelievable 😔

As for Coogan, a truly remarkable portrayal. If he won an award for it, would he actually want to accept it 😬

Saw him when I was 18 and he was the DJ at the big GPO winter gardens dance with P/Harem Whiter Shade of Pale amazing 👍 he was surrounded by young girls presumably invited by their mums who worked at GPO so hope nothing untoward when on.
