The Scottish Training Camp?

They are in for a shit time wherever it is. The weather up here is terrible just now. I've been up here for years but I still can't get used to it.

Blackpool boss Michael Appleton has set out his priorities for the training camp in Scotland this week.

The Seasiders travel North of the border on Sunday for a week-long camp prior to their next pre-season friendly outing against Scottish Premiership side Rangers at Bloomfield Road on July 16. Off the back of a tough test against Premier League opposition in Leeds United on Thursday, suffering a 4-0 defeat in the process, Appleton hopes to see some new faces in the door before his side return to the Fylde Coast.

Appleton was confident that one addition would arrive prior to the trip to Scotland as Blackpool face a challenging second consecutive season in the Championship now under new management. The new Head Coach has made no bones about the system he wants to play and what he wants to see from his side, a fluid 4-3-3 system with a holding midfielder has been a staple of Appleton's work in recent years and there will be no change to that approach in Tangerine.

Impressed by some of the younger players in the squad such as Rob Apter and Jack Moore, Appleton also spoke post-Southport of potentially taking other youngsters such as central defender Will Squires and midfielder Luke Mariette away to the camp over the next week. In terms of work to be done in Scotland, there are plenty of areas Appleton wants to focus on.

"A bit of everything we'll be working on really. We've done a lot of with the ball stuff so far in my sort of short tenure, against Leeds we haven't really had the ball because we've come up against a top unit but it's a little bit false because we're not going to face that this season - well we're not going to face it too many times anyway," Appleton told Lancs Live.

"I think making sure that the players are switched on to the formation is key, I thought there were little bits that came out and we got in a couple of times in the first half where instead of slow, slow you've probably got to gauge the pace of how we want to play and how we want to do things."

No doubt the part about - "new faces in the door before his side return to the Fylde Coast" will age just as poorly as - "Appleton was confident that one addition would arrive prior to the trip to Scotland"

Am sure I read somewhere it was Perth.
I think you're right.

Just seen the latest video and I'm 99% sure they are at Stirling Uni on the pitches and in the gym. I think they stayed there a few years back as well. Lots of English teams do over the summer (as well as St Andrews) as it is Scotland's equivalence of Loughborough Uni - centre of sporting excellence (?) or something akin to that. St Johnstone train there on a weekly basis as wel.

'Ayrshire Seasider (jnr)' will be hacked off as he went to Stirling Uni .... 🤣

Why Scotland you have to ask? Other teams go far afield and increase the global brand or at least do some warm weather training. Is it a cost thing? If the summer months are anything to go by most Scots know where Blackpool is 🤣

A training camp doesn't increase the brand, unless you're playing local friendlies too. I don't think it's anything that's even worth bringing into the discussion.
Staying relatively close to home is more cost effective, they know what facilities and resources they've got, they can potentially bring more people with them, they can more easily bring people into the squad and training. The main reason clubs go abroad is the guarantee of better weather.

There is no guarantee of better weather in Scotland and it’s midge season 😂

No, as it doesn't match up to what has been shown.

It’s either Heriot Watt or Uni of Edinburgh, can’t remember which
Definitely Heriot watt as the building in the background of the twitter post, with them running on the pitch, matches the buildings on Google maps.

I remember when Blackpool had a very good scouting system in Scotland and signed some great Scottish players from Scottish clubs usually for very small fees, many of whom then went on to become Scottish internationals. In my time watching Blackpool FC here is my all time favourite team of Scottish players signed by Blackpool from Scottish clubs — George Wood, John McPhee, Henry Mowbray, Hugh Fisher, Hughie Kelly, Pat Quinn, Tony Green, Allan Brown, Jackie Mudie, Charlie Adam, Tommy Hutchison. Subs George Farm & Keigan Parker. Hopefully Appleton will get the opportunity to watch a few games whilst he is up in Scotland and unearth some more Scottish gems.

If it is Heriot-Watt the accommodation is quite basic but clean, more basic than a Travelodge, I was on a course there about 20 years ago. There wasn't much to do and too far to sneak off to Rose St in Edinburgh, without it being obvious. It could be worse they could have stayed at a Britannia if you think that the Norbreck is bad their Scottish hotels are even grimmer.

Company i used to work for used to put me up in the Britannia in Aberdeen, absolute dump, hated it.

I spoke to Hubby about the Scottish camp and asked him whether the players ( like us ) would prefer somewhere slightly warmer

Surprisingly he said the players really enjoyed it up there - plenty of golf seemed to be the draw

They are at the Oriam Centre, Heriot Watt University campus just to the west of Edinburgh.
As coincidence would have it I'll be cycling past there tomorrow morning so I'll take the Edinburgh Seasiders Flag & see if I can get it on the Social Media posts.
Watch this space.

The extended content is now available to TTV subscribers.
2 of the injured players were featured, Hubby and Beesley but I didn't see Stewart and Gabriel. This doesn't mean they weren't there.
The only young pro I spotted was Rob Apter.
Looked very pleasant in the sunshine but lots of hard work too.

It's pretty warm in Scotland just now.

Did you get the flag out @themightysimmonite - facilities looked mint in fairness.
Facilities at Oriam are excellent and the hotel is pretty decent as well.
Went and watched the training session today - the boys look fit, sharp & very relaxed. Had a nice chat with several players inc Bowler, Maxie, Lavery, Connolly, Stewart (who looks in great nick btw), Eki & Sonny Carey. And what a bag of energy Jerry is......
Didn't manage to speak to Appleton who was on the phone but I'll tell you this, his guns are bigger in real life than on the telly.
Almost everyone signed my Lincoln play off final programme but Maxie warned me not to ask Appletion to sign it as apparently he took the defeat very, very badly.
I might go back tomorrow afternoon with the flag & look out for it at Salford.
