Just seen a White Card was shown by the match referee for the first time in the Women’s Derby between Benfica v Sporting Lisbon at weekend when the medical teams from both sides ran on the pitch to attend a player who was in difficulties. Apparently it’s shown for ‘recognition of sportsmanship’ (or sportswomanship) in this case, it’s a new one on me.

Was just reading about this. Sounds a load of bollocks to me. Fans can spot a sporting gesture without having to be told by the referee.
Opposing players will be holding hands before a corner soon.*

I think it's to do with fair play - and may be used as a deciding factor in some situations (like we should have got to Europe if we'd stayed in the PL).

Fans do recognise it, but it's no bad thing to codify but on a practical level, it can't be that easy.
