She's about the best of a bad bunch. She's driven more by pragmatism than by the right wing ideology of Truss and her camp followers.

She must be a bloody good politician. It's not easy to land such a top job when you look like a library assistant. Sorting out the NHS is just about the toughest job in UK politics so good luck to her.
 
I presume that part of her responsibility is to promote healthy eating and lifestyle. Fat chance (excuse the pun) anyone‘s going to listen to her.

If she's a supporter of raising the profile of 'craft' beer then I'll never vote for her....well, I wouldn't anyway but you get the picture.
 
Better than anything Labour have to offer.What is their policy on health or what are their policies on anything? If you can find any let the country know🤣
 
Being in and around the NHS at this current time... there is a large amount of employees who are hardly examples of good health BUT they are bloody good at their jobs!! Funny how some on this site find it perfectly alright to mock peoples appearance when they have a different political view to their own yet get all tetchy when their heroes are mocked.... hypocrites!!

Correct, I have just had a wellness check with the NHS, let’s just say she wasn’t exactly a slight woman, but she knew her stuff, or should I just ignore what she said time as she was a large lady ? Just more typical hypocrisy from the Left when it suits. It’s boring.

Not fair. I've just liked New Holland's post about it being the professionalism in the job that counts, not the physical condition. Mocking comes from all parts of society and is a negative trait.
 
The fact that Coffey is the fifth Health Secretary in four years is more of a concern than her waistline. Little wonder the UK health system is in such a poor state.
Beyond incompetent.

I’ve read most of the threads on the new PM, she wouldn’t have been my choice but we are were we are. In my opinion we should now have a GE to give her a democratic mandate or a change of government, not good timing given the current state of things granted ...I won’t hold my breath mind.
I don’t post much now because it’s,mostly,the same old left v right blinkered shit!! . Life’s tough enough at present, for all of us, just wish people could adopt a more positive approach.

I agree about needing a GE but that's because of the ongoing failures of the Governments since 2010. To that extent I probably fall into your hated left v right paradigm. However, we will have to see how Truss's regime goes.
 
The only way the health of the health secretary matters to her job is if you think somebody is sat at home debating whether to eat a salad or a cake and thinks, 'what would Therese Coffey do' which I can assure you is something nobody has ever thought. It's about 10% of the population who can probably name the health secretary at any one time

I wonder if those who mock her because of her figure, mocked John Prescot as a minister, or the shamed Cyril Smith. A lot of people are not thin due to their genes, and will never be. Being overweight is not an excuse to mock someone, or is it because she's a woman?

To be fair, John Prescott and especially Cyril Smith got plenty of stick.

I think the point was she's Health Secretary. Practice what you preach, and all that.

Very easy for someone with a lithe body like yours to say Phil, you obviously come from a slim family.

My Father was 18 stone and a very fit man, and his father was 15 stone, which in the late 1800's early nineteen hundreds was heavy. I have struggled with weight all through my life, and at one stage was over 17 stone, I'm now 14 and a half stone, but still, according to the various charts overweight. Genes have an awful lot to say when it comes to what and who you are. If she isn't fit to do her job then criticise her by all means, but let's see how she fares before making any judgements.
