This board is going to go into meltdown

But he's shit
So we’ve just got rid of a manager who most fans wanted out, on an awful run & staring relegation in the face, appointed a new manager who in general has done well in his career, granted he’s had some bad spells but the feel good factor of getting a new man in charge who is more likely to get us out of this mess than MA should lift the home support vocally on Saturday which will go some way to spur the players on, simply saying he’s shit just sounds like you’re past caring & fuck it why should I back mm, because he’s shit, bad response in my opinion

Let's be honest if it is big Mick it's god awful appointment

It goes even more against the project than Appleton did

He's a 532 man who's coming off 2 wins in 12 during his last job and plays a direct style of long ball football

I'm getting seriously worried about our owner and board of directors, they really don't seem to have a clue
When Sadler arrived, if people would have said we'd have Grayson back, Appleton back and Mick McCarthy, all within 5 years people would have laughed their socks off 🤣

Still not convinced this is the right decision. MA had a run of bad luck with injuries etc and granted he made some wrong decisions.
We and I don’t care what anyone else thinks have been very unlucky in a number of games. Run of the green we could have easily 5/6 more points.
Who’s to say someone who is out of work will turn this round. Time is not on our side.

Now 25 to 1 on with Sky bet. Hardly one to send the sceptics charging for the remaining tickets. I like Mick M but it feels like a plea to grind out the points for Championship status. Overlapping centre halves anyone? Maybe not.....

Disagree, they made a mess of the last appointment big time.
Mansford is clueless.

Was it really Mansford though that wanted him?

More and more seems to align with Sadler originally wanting Appleton more than Mansford, plus that Mansford wanted to sack Appleton a month ago, but Sadler overturned it.

All big and many small decision are made by Simon Sadler - not Ben or anyone else, they are there to execute his plans - yes they will have input but the decisions are made by Simon Sadler alone.

He is a dictatorial manager/owner and does it his way.

It’s exactly how Seganti is run

It was tongue in cheek and got a laugh.
He's just another one on the managerial merry-go-round.
We've had Grayson back, Appleton back...why not get Worthington or Hendry back????

Or god forbid, our most successful manager of the modern era who for some reason that is quite beyond me, is disliked by so many so called supporters....

No, I'll tell you what we'll do, we'll get someone who in the end will fail........

Holloway was failed by Koko.....and left because he'd had enough of fighting him for everything, to go to a bigger club with better resources.

And don't give me this 'hes an Oyston lover'....they all were, they all took the money.

Riga was the only one who had any balls and stuck it out until Koko ran out of patience with him.

Riga was a complete con artist 😂

No. But we screwed up with Appleton. That was the god awful appointment.
To be honest I think he will do OK..short term

But let's be fair he has a much better squad at his disposal than Appleton had during our really bad run just before the World Cup

Appleton didn't have the necessities to succeed with the squad we have now, twas crystal clear.

He only had one game with it and even then 3 of the new players weren't match fit

Anyway not getting drawn into all this again
He was hopeless Phil.

I think you might have backed the wrong horse and then stole its blinkers! The full head ones they use when a horse has bolted before the start, to get it into the starting gates. 😉

Fast forward 30 years, most of us are in nursing homes, in a brief moment of clarity we remember our log in details, pop on here and Phil’s still telling us that Appleton wasn’t backed, inherited a load of crap from Critch, couldn’t have changed anything against Wigan, had no choice but to play Beesley on the wing etc etc 😂

God awful Phil?
Tbf to Phil many had a similar feeling but I think Matt summed it up, as I posted on another thread. Once announced and listened to him, it just felt right, to me anyway. When you initially hear these names that you have preconceived ideas about, your not too keen. Especially after what we were told the board wants etc.

But Matt summs it up well for me.

It still remains to be seen how he will implement his style with our squad or what he will do.

Dunno. Appleton had a bit of limited success in L1 and L2. MM has had success in the Championship, done ok in the prem, and got a very small country to a World Cup quarter final.

I didn't I thought a Big Sam all along had the best chance of turning the awful appointment of Appleton around, but Big Mick can do it too hopefully.

Some managers either fit or don't fit a club, Appleton just didn't fit us. I now get the feeling Mick might. Tbh I'm buzzing about it now, whereas even his name came up, I wasn't that keen. As said on the pod, kind of how I felt.

Well we will see. One thing that's important we need to support it now

Hopefully, he'll have the fans back to their best to help.

Still remains to be seen how he will implement his known style on our squad though, quite intriguing.

Did you read what I put?! 😆

Appleton has never succeeded above L1 and hasn't done that much even down there. And we've had a graphic demonstration of why.

I didn't even mention Appleton initially, you did. I'm saying about managers fitting clubs, it already feels like MM fits far more. We know Appleton had done nowt at the level and plus would never fit us. It'll be interesting and is still unknown what MM is going to do with our sqaud and our technical players for eg.

Appleton is history. I agree with a lot of Phil's take even if Phil maybe is playing a role to some extent by this point on this topic... 😉 (Wish version of fat Sam is a brilliant line)

He had a bad hand, bad luck and doesn't deserve history writing as if everything that went wrong was solely bad judgement. There was bad judgement, plenty of it, but it wasn't his mess alone. He just didn't fit. It was the wrong appointment, wrong club, wrong time, wrong transfer strategy, and yes, he also got it wrong. He's far from the worst manager we've had but it's turned out to be one of the worst appointments. Shit happens. Clough, one of the greatest of all time ever, anywhere was a disaster at Leeds ffs.

That is the past.

McCarthy is a great big sign saying 'soz. We fucked up ' and for that, I applaud the board. I genuinely was beginning to think they saw us in league 1 and didn't really mind. I was ultimately wrong. The club have changed the mood, suddenly there's some content on the media feed, they've wrestled the agenda back. Well done.

The best thing for me in this is a strong character who will speak truth to power and that's what they need. The knowledge he's got and his ability to call out bullshit is invaluable. That was a deliberate use of the word. He won't fuck about. If it's flannel he'll say so. It's not 'yes boss' youth coach stuff.

He also appears to be loyal man judging by his record of longevity and whilst I don't see him around for too long, I think having a man of some proven integrity at the helm will maybe illustrate the difference between that kind of character and the scripted words of devotion that we fell for previously that now ring hollow.

Essentially, Critchley's legacy is big Mick. That, I find the most beautiful irony.

It's a line in the sand.

Bring on the next 19 games.

Nobody knows how Mick will do but I feel he gives us a better chance of staying in the division that Appleton did.

I was all for giving the latter time but he has the WC break to turn things around and ultimately failed, he just wasn’t good enough.

Mick has been there and done it and will command respect instantly. He’s not for the long term ‘project’ and he will know that, the hardest decision will be what to do next if he does keep us up.

I think Mick is Appletons legacy tbh. Car crash - fireman with cutters.

Critch crashed the car when he jumped out after telling everyone 'its ok, I'll drive through the night. You all go to sleep' and then we woke up with the car on fire and no driver at wheel but the car still rolling on into a ditch.

Appleton was the hapless passer-by without the skills to get us out. Mick is indeed the fireman with the cutting gear.

I think we can all agree that the satnav is fucked - but it's ok, cos Mick knows these roads like the back of his hand. Can practically drive them with his eyes closed.

He's just popped on '50 driving rock songs' and the journey is beginning.

Enjoy the ride.

I think Critch abandoned the car with a 7 figure stash of cash in the boot which he left out of good will, or guilt, and Appleton took it on a 'joy' ride, followed by helicopters and motor bikes, drove like a learner without a cause, smashed it into a wall and ran off with the cash!
