"This is magnificent from Blackpool..really impressive"

Please don't take too much from that game, positive or negative. Derby will have come away with an 'oh well' attitude which is what we would have done.

One of the reasons we looked so good in possession against Derby was because Marv wasn't playing, the back three also looked more comfortable in the second half yesterday. If Critch sticks with a back three, Marv has to stay on the bench.
How about a back 5 hes been playing so far? Its dross. I wish he would play 3, we might attack more.

What this game did do though is give us a glimpse of what could be with this formation when everyone is at it.
Thompson and Lyons were both very effective in their respective wing back roles which maybe begs the question where has Thomson been since.
The back three Connolly, Casey and Husband looked like a solid unit and there was a lot of energy throughout harrying Derby down in triangles and players making themselves available for a pass.
All of which disappeared in subsequent games.

I think the problem is we did learn from this game, unfortunately the manager didn’t seem to take anything from it?

Dougall Virtue and Carey in midfield.

Norburn was the worst player on the pitch on Saturday, even worse than CJ. He gave the ball away for the first goal and was totally
out of position for the second goal where he was beaten to the ball where it was flicked on to the goalscorer, then done for pace
and gave a penalty away. Teams have worked out that if they put pressure on him, which is pretty easy as he totally one-footed, then
he cannot cope. Obviously, teams scout their opposition and once they see a weakness in a team, they will keep attacking it.
It was made worse by the fact he tried to do too much after his first mistake due to frustration, and by doing too much lost all his positional discipline.

Also think the fact that it was a “meaningless” cup game had a lot to do with how the team performed.

No fear of losing while in the league there probably an emphasis to not lose.

Derby were really poor first half. Sat off us. It shook them up and since that game they are W3 L1 F8 A4.

Hopefully Saturday shakes us up.

We could do a lot worse than bringing in Gary Bowyer as the No.2 (mainly because he’s available and better than the no.1 imo)
