Seems like he’s got some common sense.

The change in tone and positive language is
refreshing.

“We also need to be clear that cases are going to rise significantly. I know many people will be cautious about the easing of restrictions – that’s completely understandable. But no date we choose will ever come without risk, so we have to take a broad and balanced view. We are going to have to learn to accept the existence of Covid and find ways to cope with it – just as we already do with flu.”

I also liked this line...

“Tragically, the last time we had 28,000 new cases of Covid-19 in a day, we saw about 500 people die each day. On Friday, we had almost 28,000 cases a day, but 24 times fewer people lost their lives.”

Wait till Mr Graphs reads this, he’ll be saying it’s not a clear comparison and bar charting us into submission.

England doing well has got the nation out and about celebrating and given a great boost for the economy, positivity is flowing this morning and great to see the doom is disappearing.

Let’s hope walks it like he talks it 🙌🏽

Ye I was I was thinking exactly the same this morning 👍🏻 He seems serious unlike the last chancer. Really can’t wait till the 19th and the 21st when I can jump about with a load of Rangers lunatics without the mask police looking down there nose at me😃

I live on Rossall Road in Cleveleys and we normally get several ambulances flashing past, but today has been off the scale. Let’s hope whoever they are , they’re ok, and hope this isn’t Covid related.

I would like it all opened immediately obvs but I see no reason why - if England make it to the final - Javid couldn't open it all up a week earlier than the made up, arbitrary deadline already in place.

It'd be a massive boon to the UK as a whole. A real showpiece event which shows the world we are back in business with a bang.

Judging by the amount of drunkards walking past my house all hours of the night and morning I would imagine they are attending to more alcohol related football induced misadventures 😆

The main thing we all need to remember is that Covid doesn't change at midnight on 19th even if the rules do and the current strain is way more easily transmitted than previous ones. Masks and social distancing are low cost ways to protect people and ultimately businesses and the economy.

Medically, the link between cases and deaths is now largely decoupled so the focus should be on long-Covid. If vaccination has also brought the numbers and severity of those cases down, then it just seems sensible now to keep the low or no cost precautions in place whilst opening everything else back up.

I ** love it that the anxiety-ridden / virtue signalling hegemony of the last year+ is being brought to a halt. I love it that mask wearing idiots will be making themselves even more noticeable and I love it that this bandwagon of complete shithousery is about to be torpedoed. Worried? Tough shit, stay at home.

For once, I might even watch the press conference tonight. Good times.

I also loved the fact that Richard ‘peak Partridge’ Madeley wiped that smug smirk off Michie this morning 🤣 horrible human that one, how she’s involved I’ll never know.

The meltdown at restrictions being lifted & life being normal again is so bizarre.

I'll have to seek that out. Sounds fun. She has been an incorrigible bedwetter. A terminal Covid cultist.

The NHS hasn't been overwhelmed and we approach "freedom" on the 19th July.

The lockdown lovers are moving away from the dangers of Covid and on to Long Covid.

Quelle feckin surprise.

Stay in lockdown forever, you can just lock yourself in your house if you so wish but don't expect every other fecker to do the same.

What a strange angry post. How you managed to shoehorn the term virtue signalling into this topic is admirable, but I'm a bit disappointed you didn't go for the full house of bullshit bingo and use the term woke as well.

You are right, the woke lot have been the worst over the last year. I really shouldn't have left them out 👍🏻

She isn't involved, she's an imposter pretending to be a member of SAGE to launch political attacks on the government.

And you need to have a pop at doo gooders and lefties, they deserve a shoeing as well.
Keith has been a complete arse and I voted for him as party leader! My mistake. Don't mind do gooders if they can somehow manage to not broadcast their 'good deeds' to all and sundry.

Is she not? She’s listed as on all the media outlets she appears on? Even though she’s not actually a scientist.

Poison. Nothing worse than these types of people. Owen Oyston school.E1FDCD3A-AE95-47ED-86D2-9DB849AA0AF8.png

I wouldn't go that far, masks do reduce transmission.

Covid ain't over, it can still be a nasty disease and many people of rude health have been floored by it.

Of course I said we should have unlocked on the original date as the damage to business is becoming too great.

So its great news we should open.

But I dont think we should criticise people who may wear a mask indoors for eg until infection rates drop.

I have openly criticised the need for mask wearing at the playoff games for eg and having to social distance outside when groups at pubs were allowed right next to each other with no masks. It made no sense.

The risk outside is very minimal.

However I've had 1 dose of pfizer, so I should be safe from serious disease even if I may have been anyway, but why risk it so I got it.

But one dose isn't as good as 2 at stopping still getting infected. So there may be some who choose to try and reduce the risk of getting it by wearing a mask on a bus for eg. I dont see the harm in that.

Its about looking at the facts, as I said wearing it outside is pretty pointless.

Masks actually protect those around more than yourself do if people want to wear one and reduce our risk then thats fine.

Infection levels alone are obviously not worth locking down for but there is still a need to get them as low as possible.

Afterall we'd rather have less of the thing around and the vaccinations should start to reduce the numbers who get it and pass it on.

The more infections there are the more variants can evolve, luckily it seems the vaccines are effective against them all although with less protection against infection but still higher against more serious stuff.

Long covid is also something I and I image everyone would rather avoid given the choice.

We've seen how perfectly healthy people like out own Kenny Dougall were not right for a while afterwards and that may not even have been long covid.

I guess with some people won't take it as seriously until they get it and are floored by it.

Thats not to say we haven't over reacted to it in many ways and not followed actual science.

Absolutely no reason we couldn't have attended the football last season in at least quarter capacity for eg, as said the science outside is proving its low risk.

But its very good the country is opening up as life must go on, but it doesn't mean the disease is just gone.

Is any other country with rising infection levels doing this? Is everyone else wrong? I see Israel has published findings that the Pfizer vaccine is showing a drop in efficacy levels recently against the Delta variant (64% from 94%).

I agree that we need to live with this virus as we have learned over the years to live with others - something South Asia has done a few years ahead of us and hence their acceptance and normalisation of face mask wearing in crowded situations - but not sure we should just drop everything immediately because the Health Minister still thinks he’s The Wealth Minister and Culture Secretary rolled into one and some mystic date in the Earth’s rotation around the Sun has been reached.

Every death, no matter how few Covid-19 related, is a tragedy for some poor family, it’s sad to see so many on this thread being so blase’ about it.

Is she not? She’s listed as on all the media outlets she appears on? Even though she’s not actually a scientist.

She's a scientist, or at least a behavioural psychologist, that part is true, however she holds herself out as a member of SAGE and by extension a government adviser, and that is where she is bluring the truth.

There's a whole group of them calling themselves Independent SAGE, they're all scientists of one sort or another but they're all also hard left activists who are trying to use the pandemic as a stick to beat the government with and advance their agenda.

So essentially they try to hold themselves out as government advisers to get a media platform, but the reality is the only thing they will say is that the government is wrong, if the goverment:
  • gets rid of masks then they are a vital tool in stopping spread of the virus;
  • keeps masks then they are unnecessary and a cruel imposition on society;
  • relaxes lockdown then this will lead to thousands of needless deaths;
  • keeps lockdown then this will lead to unnecessary suffering for millions of children.
You get the picture, Boris is bad, everything he does is wrong etc, and the media allows them to do this without properly explaining who they are.

It's worth looking up their membership because there are others that crop up quite regularly as well, Christina Pagel and Anthony Costello are the ones that spring to mind, I think Deenan Pillay is starting to become more active as well.

Sajid has got the cultists scurrying this morning. My man. Even Dr Shillary had the morning off 😀

As opposed to this Government’s strategy of “Use your common sense and judgement” who’s very own leader and Prime Minister “continues to shake hands with everyone, including some COVID patients I believe” and ended up having a near death experience after catching the Virus at a critical time in the pandemic!

New health sec has just said cases could be 100000 per day after the 19th. That has to put pressure on the NHS an maybe the economy (if at any time 1m workers, less schoolkids, are self iso).

The issue of these 'scientists' was raised in the commons the other week. The Public has a right to know about any factors and particularly political allegiences which may be influencing their so called scientific opinion. The fact is that our politicians are scrutinised concerning any potential conflict of interest and yet we are essentially allowing these individuals to influence public opinion and potentially guide policy decision making without an appropriate level of scrutiny.
