Throw ins

Liverpool have a throw in coach! I wonder if we are doing more in this area. So many throw ins just seem to be about getting the ball back into play without much thought. Notts has a great throw so it would be good to utilise it effectively.

Critchley will have had time with that fella and will no doubt be using what he learnt. Something for us to look out for.

Replace throw ins with a kick in. Opposing players must stand at least 5 yards away. After all the game is called football.

Years ago I played in a friendly which experimented with kick ins over throw ins.

Basically anytime the ball went out in the attacking half of the pitch the game came to a halt as the big centre halves went up front before the ball was lumped forward. Didn’t encourage any kind of possession football which I think was the idea.

Ive noticed this year that we're doing throw-ins differently already. Under Grayson and when i got to see under bowyer, Mcdonut et al, the ball would always be thrown forward into a group of tightly marked players which resulted in lost possession at least half the time. Seemed always to be about gaining forward ground, it would also take an eon to get the ball back into play. This season the ball goes to a free player in tangerine (mostly) to retain possesion, and the ball is got back into play much more quickly.

The whole long throw in seems a bit old school and hoof-ballish get it into the box and play the percentages, but the liverool coach is looking at wider distribution a bit like the way goalkeepers have needed to change.

Interesting thread. One thing that I have noticed, though is at least one or two foul throws (or more) per game that are never penalised. It seems that officials have given up looking for them.

Good op. One of my moans in the first two games was the lack of options at throw ins, and also the poor close control of the receiving player. I am sure this small (but important) element will improve.

It has always frustrated me that we 'throw away' throw in's as much as we do! It should be an advantage but over the years we've never really used them to our advantage!

The advantage is that you regain possession as your opponent ,by pressure or from an error, has put the ball out of play. It's the next ball that is important, i.e. what you do with that safe possession.

The long throw into the box is a peace of piss to defend against unless you can put swerve and speed into it like Delap used to.
Far better throwing it to a player to boot into the mix.
