Time for 4 at back?

But not a chance in hell of it happening.
Sadly I have to agree with this
I think, because we've had the occasional success, Critch will persevere with a back 3

I personally think we're more solid with a back 4, especially with the players we have
Marv for example has gone backwards this season, a back 3 just doesn't seem to suit him

It's been obvious since game one. I can't stand it. We end up with inadequate full back cover (no reflection on the players concerned, they are out of position and not used to their strengths) and three centre halves, none of whom can pass that well thus weakening our ability to play out effectively. On top of that, with three centre halves there is always room for confusion. Today's fiasco showed that in spades.

I was strongly against 3 at the back at the start of the season yet it grew on me recently when Marv was fit and his pace gave us the ability to high line defend.

Issue with 4 at the back is we either have to play one striker like Rhodes (not great as a lone striker) in a 4-2-3-1 or we need to play Dembele in the wide position in a 4-4-2

Hard to say what’s best?

4 2 3 1. Attacking it becomes more joined up with the 1. As long as it's not hoofed to him.

Dougall for Connelly and a 4 2 3 1 see's a win yesterday.

Not that I get hung up on formations. It's a starting position that's fluid. A 3 5 can quickly become a 5 3 depending on the game situation.

Plenty of options, but I doubt Critchley will abandon his classroom 3-5-2.

4-4-2
4-3-3
4-3-2-1
4-2-3-1
probably other fluid formations.

He should know, he’s a highly qualified coach apparently.

We are the second top goalscorers in the last 10 games and so clearly we have a problem at the back.
As a picture that @Athers showed - Norburn was effectively in the back four on Saturday and he's not a defender!

If you play a back three, they have to have pace, and solid cover in front of them. Marvin wasn’t playing, and Norburn was !

Don't get your hopes up, Mr Stubborn doesn't think he's doing anything wrong and it's all the players fault.

Thinking about it he'd be a brilliant boss at BAe systems🤣🤣

I’d like to see it as another option. Last League 1 campaign under Critchley we flitted between different systems fluently and it gave the opposition plenty to worry about it.

We know Critchley has the ability to coach multiple systems, needs to demonstrate it again.

Looking back at the last League 1 campaign
