Time for Russian people to say enough is enough

And those protesters arrested are being served conscription papers but can’t see them fighting with any energy or their country!

Russians have been opressed by the tsars, living as serfs long after the rest of Europe was liberalising and overthrowing autocratic monarchies. Then when they finally overturned that system they were oppressed living in the Soviet Union, and now oppressed living under Putin. It’s just not in their DNA to kick up a fuss. It’s natural for them to have an autocratic regime tell them how to live their lives. Most russians accept this as they think if they don’t kick up a fuss and accept the government, the government will leave them alone. They are very apolitical. They are now learning that being so indifferent is a mistake, as the government now comes and drags their fathers sons and brothers into a war none of them are keen to fight and die in.

Having a stranglehold on power and using propaganda to keep it is one thing, but when you start forcing people to put their lives on the front line for a war that has a wafer thin motivation it's entirely different. I'm not surprised there are protests and people are fleeing the country. And what's Putin going to do - kill or imprison everyone he needs to fight?

It's a war he can't possibly win and it's going to end badly for him.

The trouble is there are still far too many people in Russia who think this is a just war and Putin is right. They’re far more likely to hand over any dissenters to the authorities than rise up against them.l have every respect for those that are brave enough to put their lives and freedom on the line. They are not really getting a lot of outside support.

When the Ivans start calling up the Ivanas- like they did in WW2- to the frontline then you know Putin will be a goner.

I don’t know, some of those lasses were amongst the best snipers in the whole war!!
Yes I know but those were different times when they had to go or were shot. Imagine the protests today if women were conscripted against their will and told they were going into action.

Would take a large chunk of the population to be viable, difficult when Putin still has a lot of support.

Personally, I doubt I'd have the courage unless there was an insurmountable strength in numbers factor.

The vast majority in the major cities believe Putins version that Russia is under threat from the west and Ukraine is rife with nazis

Yeah to true. You only have to look at some spineless moaners at work, who say yes we’re behind you & we’ll take this issue to task. Then you stick your neck out & challenge whatever it may be & find out they are behind you, but completely out of site.

There was a mass participation revolution in 1917. The Russian population also rose up in massive force against the Nazis. I think your characterisation misunderstands the Russian psyche.

Your entitled to your opinion.

Your brief response doesn’t clarify if you’ve been there to merit it.
You’re entitled to yours too, but my experience tells me that you can’t tar a very large population with the same brush. To me, there are always exceptions and if you communicate with people you will start to relate to them more than you ever expected to.

Let’s just say that this situation hits close to home for me and I’m very upset. I don’t want anyone to die.

I’ve been through a very tough time since February due to things which are absolutely beyond my control.

I really admire the way you’re dealing with the tough situation you and your family have found yourself in…
