TIME TO GET GABRIEL

Not ideal that we have left it this late but its time to bite the bullet and sign a player who we know will fit straight in. If he is £500k instead of £300k then so be it...get Sarkic Howe and Thorniley out on loan and ease the wage burden (I cant see how any of them will even make the bench) Three points are going begging at Bristol City and they are there for the taking...to start the season with no right back would be shocking tbh.

I am surprised we haven’t done the deal yet. In terms of experience, we have zero decent options in that position. As things stand I’d play Sinclair.

The problem is Florist won't let him go until they have bought a replacement. So, we can make all the bids we like 👍 but until Florist are ready to sell it won't go anywhere. We are playing the long game patience is key.

I fear we are going to miss Turton & Ballard.
Defence looks weak, midfield missing creation.
Attack looks short of goals till Madine back with Jerry.
Think our starting 11 weaker than play off squads? :(

We really should be thankful if SS can fund this one after having had to find at least £4m to get us through last season.
I do get the he has already put his money where his mouth is but we really really need a right back before Saturday...We are going to struggle at this level if there are any weaknesses that teams can exploit. I dont think Turton was the answer but to be fair he is better than what we currently have in that department. We need reinforcements sooner rather than later or its going to be a tough watch.

And what about Ian Lavery ? After watching him play I reckon he could be starting v Bristol City

We've got a very young squad and it's only pre season, it will take 5-10 games to hit the ground running again but I believe in the project 👍

Connolly was bought to cover RB until we sign someone ekse so I expect he will. He's not a player who can get forward but he's a solid defender and the panic on here is ridiculous really. Predictable, obviously.
Im not sure it’s panic Voy, it’s more based on previous seasons under the previous regime and how during pre season what we did for the squad, would normally be a precursor to how our entire season would go.
it’s still a novelty to us to know that IF we do start off struggling a bit, there will be plans within plans to ensure things are rectified quickly. Look how quickly Calderwood came in and suddenly we looked solid as a rock. I’m not a particularly optimistic person due to life events, but I trust those in charge.
we are just going to have to get used to this.

Agree. Just pay the man and get him in. It's a fair price and he wants to be here.

It’s not like going to a supermarket and putting something in your basket to take to the checkout. Forest will not sell him. They *may* do at some stage *if* they do the incoming business they want.

The flaw is that we don’t have an obvious Plan B for this scenario.

How do you know that? Public knowledge Forest gave a price. You pay the man or you don't.

We don’t need to buy a right back for Saturday.... it just doesn’t work like that. If it takes until the end of the month then so be it. We can’t force anyone to sell and we don’t buy for the sake of it. We have to cope until we get the right player and deal.

I don't think we can afford 3 quality permanent signings.
Most of ours are freebies.
You do realise that 'quality loans' often end up being more expensive (in terms of in year financial cost) than permanent signings don't you?

Big teams don't just loan out young players for free these days; they demand a % of wages and a loan fee (see Chelsea, who make a fortune from loaning players out or indeed Arsenal who are notorious for charging £££ for loans).

In terms of permanent transfers in the Championship this summer, there's been 82. 48 have been frees, 34 have involved fees.

Only 15 of the 24 clubs have paid a fee for someone, and we're one of them.

I agree with Voyeur, don't panic. We have to believe in the long term project and get the right people in.

The main aim of this season is to survive / consolidate. Relegation isn't decided in the first few games.

...and you must realise the quality loans were instrumental in getting us promoted!

Yeah the team is “crap” let’s sell the lot!!!
Get your wallet out Sadler this is no good at all.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
FFS what a negative post on a team that has depth and ability.
So yes, we need a right back I’m sure messers “Sadler & Critchley” are fully aware of it and have every intention of resolving the matter ASAP without panicking & buying the wrong player.

I personally can’t wait to see this squad compete in The Championship, especially with the thought of a few loans potentially added in.

Correct.

Forest have only been able to sign one player this summer for what it's worth. Slowest I've ever seen the market.

Gabriel is Plan A. We have a Plan B, but we reckon that the Plan A is worth hanging around for and is likely to sign.
How do you know that we have a plan B? My fear is that NC has put all his eggs in 1 basket with Gabriel and now has nowhere to turn. He might get bailed out by the loan market, but the RB position has been a problem since Turton left and needs to be sorted otherwise early season points will be forfeited.

You honestly think that if Simon Sadler were to pick up the phone to the recruitment team and NC and ask them what the plan is if we don't get Gabriel they'd say 'We don't have one. We've put all our eggs in one basket'? These are professionals (something we're not used to, admittedly) and not members on AVFTT saying 'Why don't we sign KDH again?' ad infinitum.

Sometimes transfers happen straight away, sometimes they don't. Frustratingly we're having to wait, but I'd rather wait for the right player than rush into signing someone to quell the fear, negativity and panic on AVFTT.

Despite the lack of right back, I'm betting we pick up at least 5 points between now and the transfer window closing at the end of August (five league games). Based on last season that'd be good enough for 17th in the table - and I'm sure we'd all take that. Quite happy for you to bookmark should I be proved wrong.

As a side note, I honestly don't get fans (whether they be Pool fans, fans of other clubs or indeed other sports) who are constantly in a state of negativity, panic and fear about their team. If following your team makes you feel that bad, then sport probably isn't for you.

Be objective sure, and critical when you need to be, but from the countless diatribes online about BFC you'd never guess we'd just been promoted.

I'm certainly not negative, in fact I am very encouraged about the squad as a whole. Nevertheless professionalism does not mean that you don't make mistakes and my fear here is that the RB position has been mis-managed. During his tenure NC has found it easy to bring players in due to a range of favourable factors within the Club, and he may have been under the mis-apprehension that this would apply with all player searches. If he is playing a waiting game here it is dangerous with the limited back-up he has at his disposal. I could be wrong of course and he might have a plan B. However before your rant my question was how do you know there is a plan B.

Apologies, my 'rant' was not aimed at yourself but a general observation - apologies if that wasn't clear.

Although I'm not privy to any names, there's definitely a Plan B.

Thanks for turning up. 👍🤠

Thanks Abel for a much needed injection of rationality.
Enjoy the cricket.

Perhaps you could be the special advisor to NC. You obviously don’t realise the club have been working hard to bring in certain players. Patience is the name of the game…
