Time to try 4-4-2

I would love to see Critch try switching to 4-4-2, I know it’s unfashionable nowadays but the players we’ve brought in just aren’t suiting his high press 4-3-3 style, especially when they’re not bloody pressing high.

It’s great having full backs willing to bomb forward who are attack minded but without a solid enough midfield to drop back you leave gaps big enough for good league 1 wingers to exploit. Keep a flat back 4 and use full backs on the overlap when safe to do so and when they have a much better positional understanding.

Players like cj, kemp and bez would suit a wide role in a 4 man midfield much better. Also I think it may bring the best out of Kai Kai whenever he’s not injured.

Robson could be paired with Anderson / virtue which already looks more balanced and a front 2 of Madine with Yates playing off the last man would give us so much more of an attacking threat.

Oh and on today, I have always said it will take 10 games for things to click but progress is needed along the way, look at successful sides and they are solid with partnerships across the pitch, with that in mind I can’t recall us playing the same back 4 all season... therein lies one of Critch’s many problems 🤷

Defensively, I could see us being really successful in a 532. We’ve brought in fantastic full backs for this. Marv, Viking and Ballard would probably be a formidable Central three.

However that would make a complete mockery of the pre season signings, whilst it may help Yates and possibly Anderson it would make, Kemp Lubala, CJ and Garbutt completely pointless signings.

My point being that our pre season Signings are beginning to lock us into 433.

The problem is Lubala and Kemp look out of their depth or not being considered respectively. Anderson is being criminally used out of position, Yates is looking a shadow of his former self whilst shutting CJ down in the game means we re not going to score.

So the signings have been made and can’t seem to execute NC’s vision.

The above also negates 442 as generally it looks like the full backs can’t defend properly.

I fear NC is not willing to
Change anything, as he’s pumped the majority of the clubs budget into 433 players and will live or die by that.

What’s crazy is whilst doing this he’s shoe horning some players into the squad, (Anderson and Ward) because they occupy positions taken up by other talented players (Yates and CJ).

The balance is all wrong, the pre season scatter gun is the root of this problem, the handling of the produce may shoot NC in the foot.

I hope to god he changes things.

I love how NC love in pre season is disintegrating and everyone is so much more knowledgable that the guys being paid to work with the squad.
