I would love to see Critch try switching to 4-4-2, I know it’s unfashionable nowadays but the players we’ve brought in just aren’t suiting his high press 4-3-3 style, especially when they’re not bloody pressing high.
It’s great having full backs willing to bomb forward who are attack minded but without a solid enough midfield to drop back you leave gaps big enough for good league 1 wingers to exploit. Keep a flat back 4 and use full backs on the overlap when safe to do so and when they have a much better positional understanding.
Players like cj, kemp and bez would suit a wide role in a 4 man midfield much better. Also I think it may bring the best out of Kai Kai whenever he’s not injured.
Robson could be paired with Anderson / virtue which already looks more balanced and a front 2 of Madine with Yates playing off the last man would give us so much more of an attacking threat.
Oh and on today, I have always said it will take 10 games for things to click but progress is needed along the way, look at successful sides and they are solid with partnerships across the pitch, with that in mind I can’t recall us playing the same back 4 all season... therein lies one of Critch’s many problems
