Tony Mowbray @Birmingham

That's the move they should have made to replace John Eustace if they wanted to be less pragmatic and more attacking.

Mowbray might have the face and voice of a man that looks like he'll set up for a 0-0 draw but in his last two jobs he turned Blackburn & Sunderland into young, energetic attacking teams and where you could see a bit more investment could have pushed them on.

I'm not sure what Sunderland were doing moving him on unless he was asking questions of their board that the Stevie G Coach Clone they've replaced him with won't for now.

I like Rooney. For some time he was asked to run the attack for England and took a lot of punishment without responding. I think he would do well to take on a good League 2 team and see if he can get them promoted a couple of times. And that is without demanding a top wage. He needs time and space away from the glare of the media in order to hone his craft.

If he's going to make a management career out of it then yes. Needs some time away to work on a comeback, needs to give up the ale as well looking at him. You could tell straight away from the media coverage what Birmingham were trying for with him as a 'name'. But you could also tell that Rooney wasn't one for soundbytes and was blaming the players he inherited for not being able to do it his way and telling them they were going to be replaced.

That never tends to end well. Appleton does something similar when he goes in at clubs and he tried it here. It's one thing having a vision or wanting your own men or your voice to be the loudest but you've got to do a job with what you've got and be able to tick over until you can get there with it.

Just a bad situation all round for Birmingham and Rooney. Last May would have been the time to make that change to start something new. The CEO running it for the owner hasn't had a good six months in the job. That's their problem though.

Mowbray will do better than Rooney quite simply because he has loads more experience
I think Rooney is very naive and has a lot learn especially when it comes to the media.
One of his quotes prior to getting the sack was if they don’t want to play my way then they won’t stay at Birmingham.
To me that stinks of looking for scapegoats to detract from the poor performances. “Don’t blame me, it’s the players” kind of thing.
By the way, Tony Mowbray, one of the hardest players to grace a football pitch.

My Blackburn supporting mate didn't rate Tony Mowbray or Gary Bowyer but I think what does he know. Two proper footballing Men and I'm sure TM will do a decent job at Brum.

I work with 2 PNE fans...so it's the first day back at work and the Chelsea jokes were flowing and their excuses were getting more absurd.
I was saying that I really hoped, Lowe would remain their manager for the next month, so they will be in a relegation fight by March...😁

The reply was:
Knobber: Hemmings is going to sack Lowe this weekend if we lose and were getting "Tony Mowbray" to take over
Me: Tony Mowbray has just joined Birmingham
Knobber: WHAT😳......OH FUCK NO!!!!

I always think of Tony Adam’s who also failed as a manager. They all forgot the journey into becoming the players they were. They all expect the players to be on their wavelength and they’re not. Happens in all lines of work.

funny that, my rovers supporting mate is/was a big fan of both TM and GB and thought they both did a v good job in difficult circumstances. proper footballing men is an apt description.

TM has an excellent record of developing young talent into first-team material and it will be interesting to see how he fares at brum.

They can have Rooney instead. Mr potato head would be a perfect fit for that lot 👍
