Rangers set for academy transfer exodus as Tony Weston among SEVEN kids allowed to leave amid summer overhaul.
Still only 19 but not set the world alight in bonnie Scotland.. l always felt he left us to soon I know the money and a big club are big draws but sometimes you have to walk before you can run.

He had a very similar style to Rob Apter. I think they went to the same school.

All we need is a manager so that we can start the rebuild. At the moment everything’s mirroring last summer!

You do wonder about who advises these kids as you knew that was never going to end well and he'd be swallowed up.
Shame - that game he came on as. a ressie he looked OK and I bet would have got game time with us if he'd stayed.

I suspect his academy time at Rangers will be viewed as more valuable than if he’d stayed with us?

Better facilities, on paper a bigger name on his CV and he did get actual loans out whereas most of our kids don’t seem to?

Tony is the same age group as Luke Mariette, Tayt Trusty, Donovan Lescott (a year younger than Rob Apter) all of whom have had loans.
Tony went was tempted to Rangers partly because his football hero Steven Gerrard was the Manager and also because he could get a pro-contract at 16 (it's 17 in England).

The first time time I saw him was on a freezing day at Squires Gate's ground in a game against Huddersfield's U19s.
He came on as a sub in the second half and caught my eye as although he looked like a young lad (16?) against the others he was feisty enough to make his presence felt.
The other memory of that game is Ryan Hardie, who was out of favour with SG, scoring a hat trick.
Ben Mansford joined the Club earlier that week and was also there.

Your mention of all these young players makes me think that with Dobbie at the helm we could blood them successfully and to the first team's benefit in League One.

Yes I remember it well.

Interesting article about him from February this year ..

Interesting indeed. I'd love to see him back at the seaside. I expect the experience in Scotland has made him into a much more rounded player and person.
