Too much tinkering

Every game we change formation and players depending on the opposition..
Why can't we have a settled system, style of play, players.
Let the opposition change to play us
How can we possibly recruit when we don't know the positions we want the players to play
Decide on your formation and style of play.
Now you know areas you want to improve and the type of player you want
Filter this down to junior level, now every player knows their role and is hopefully able to eventually progress to the first team
Obviously in games there will be odd tweaks required, but you like to think at this level the players would recognize this

A lot of so called tinkering is forced on us by injuries. Also need to keep players match fit, Connolly was dropped for several games after his red card but then required to cover a different position.
Would actually prefer at this stage more playing time for fringe players, some who have never played at this level

How do you have a settled side when you lose Sterling, Gabriel, Stewart, and now Grimshaw?

A proactive coach does his homework for each opponent. If you just stick with the same old same old good coached just work you out. You need to be flexible in the modern game.

You will always have injuries. You have a consistent formation and style.
The players may have to change but the way you play doesn't
The less you change the more consistent you become

The more predictable and easy to beat you become, mor like.

Far better to be adaptable IMHO…

I would like to see a settled back four (or three), settled CDM's and a fluidic front.
Maybe swap Josh and CJ during the match to prevent them doubling up on Josh.
Maybe have Gary up front with Jerry/Shayne and wide men constantly changing places and doubling up on a player.
Anything that stops our attacks from being predictable and nullified (like the nobbers managed to do).

The mention of injuries is correct, although it's been Sterling OR Gabriel and losing a keeper shouldn't impact that much as long as he's been around training and the defenders know their role.

The flexibility and adaptability is all good and well in the run up to the game, but there's not much evidence of that during the game where it matters most.

I was hoping this would be the time in the season that we would become more settled and players who are key settle into a system, with the addition of fringe players coming in who know exactly what's required. That's gone boobies up now.
