Top 3 countries you’ve visited

Philippines is great. Like a less crowded/Touristy Thailand, with locals who all speak some English and are very friendly and chill.
Avoid the tourist traps, rent a moped and just island hop. Lived there for a year. Women are gorgeous too.

Romania is also brilliant. Can go skiing in Brasov for about a quarter of the price you'd pay in the Alps, see Vlad the Impaler's castle, visit their version of the dead sea, beach holiday in Constanta for less than Magaluf...and the women are gorgeous too.

China can be brilliant if you have the budget. It's like a continent really, so probably somewhere to spend a bit more time on. Amazing food too.
The women are gorgeous but mental 😄
Cheers mate, living in the Philippines for a year sounds amazing, I’ve been to Romania travelling 30 years ago, 5 of us in an old Vauxhall midi van, solo backpacking nowadays so as much as I would like to go back to reminisce I’ve heard it can be a bit dodgy?

Have to agree about Scotland, especially the West Coast as you say, but outside the UK.

USA - only visited a few of the states (incl Florida and Alaska) but there's so many different areas to visit

Canada - Only visited the British provinces in the West to Central regions. Beautiful country, especially when viewed from the Rocky Mountaineer train journey through the Rockies.

Jamaica - didn't see Kingston, and yes we'd heard about crime rates. But we didn't see any of that, great people and a great stay. Dunns River Falls and Montego Bay were beautiful though
Would you recommend the rocky mountaineer Dave?
Have thought about it for ages but never made the plunge 👍🏻

Too scared to fly. Only been to Scotland and Wales.
To scared to fly! What’s the worse that could happen? ... apart from crashing and dying of course!
First trip away for me was Peebles Scotland on a school trip , great memories, if I’m staying in this country due to travel restrictions, the idea of far north of Scotland in my van ( with a top of the range very expensive sleeping bag- cheaper than hiring a camper) appeals, great wildlife, no internet or phone just a stove and a few supplies sounds like a plan

Nice one CT, I’ve done most of Eastern Europe but not Ukrainian, I’ve been reading up on it lately
I stayed overlooking the Olympic Stadium in Kiev. Bagged myself a Niko Kranjcar Dynamo Kiev shirt as well as Artem Kravets match shirt. Also got the Ukraine shirt from the Euros, lovely Adidas kit.

Lovely place though. Really friendly locals and not very expensive at all. Chernobyl and Pripyat were a great experience. Was before they put the structure around the reactor and obviously way before the TV show which caused a massive spike in visits. You can even go inside the Reactor building now on a tour if that interests you.

Evening Wiz
Yes I'd recommend it, but we did it as part of an organised trip through Cosmos. Our 2 week holiday consisted of a coach trip from Calgary to Jasper, then the RM to Vancouver, then a 7 day cruise to SE Alaska
The RM trip is over 2 days, and the scenery and wildlife you see is stunning. Oh and I don't think I've ever eaten and drunk so much. The holiday was to celebrate my early retirement in May 2019, and I recall you'll be hanging your boots up around Christmas?

Go for the silver ticket journey. The gold is £350 more and not worth the extra.

1. Italy (Rome)
Went for a long weekend and still didn't fit in all the things to see. An amazing place with amazing history, food isn't too shabby either (although I hear other parts of Italy are much better cuisine-wise).

2. Greece (Rhodes)
A great combination of relaxation, sight seeing, drinking and food. Hotel was great, multiple beaches nearby, idyllic views and loads of little towns/areas nearby to venture out to.

3. Czech Republic (Prague)
Best beer I've ever tasted, was like nectar!

I can't do a holiday of just a week sitting at a beach me, did a family one in 2017 to Majorca and it bored me senseless. Have to have a bit of history/sightseeing as well.

Looking next summer to go to Cavtat in Croatia, looks a great combination of a beach holiday with some culture to experience as well. Cavtat's own old town and the beautiful city of Dubrovnik up the road!
Exactly the same as you tangerine, beach holidays are great for a lot of people who graft hard all year & have young kids, it just seems a shame to travel a long distance & look at the same scenery everyday
My ex was in the travel industry and we used to go to Dubai etc- sit by the pool, have a really good buffet evening meal with fancy ice sculptures on the tables, she loved “ the high life “ I was just bored after a couple of days

Denmark
Portugal
Germany
Only been away at Christmas once in my life,to Portugal. Albufeira, in a bar on Christmas Eve bit worse for wear , probably 20 people at the most there & some scantily clad young ladies came out to dance on the tables dressed in nazi uniforms to a live band whose lead singer had a lisp!
hired a car though and went up into the small villages, some of the best meals I’ve ever had, especially a squid dish that I’ve tried to replicate without much success

I think most of the countries in the world I have visited I have found something to enjoy or had an adventure, so its hard to pick three, but if forced

1. Myanmar -

Its like going back 50 years , fantastic buildings , friendly people , went 4 years ago, was starting to get flooded with tourist but not too much at the time. Balloons over Bagan one of the top 3 things I've ever done

2. Maldives

Just for the sheer beauty of the islands + the hotel we stayed in we were absolutely spoiled

3. US

Just for variety of experiences from Boston, New Orleans , Colorado , Florida San Francisco..................

Worst county if I had to pick one Russia, the food was pants , although it had improved the second time I went. When dealing with people on a transactional level i.e restaurants, hotels and travel very surly and unhelpful. Although if you got into a deeper conversation in a bar or about work they opened up.
Like going back in time is what I like about India

Australia
Mexico
USA

Unless someone has visited the majority of countries in the world it would be very difficult to name the best and even then it would be personal preference.

I know people who hate America but it is so vast and diverse. And then people who say “I wouldn’t go there’s if you paid me.” How can they say that if they’ve never even been there.

India (like nowhere else, loved it)
Maldives (just perfect)
Isle of Man (my happy place) :)
Surprisingly not many people have mentioned India Hills good to know you have the same opinion, I’ve been 3 times & my plan was to go every year to a different state Rajasthan its obviously the best place to go if it’s a one off but a lot of people seem to stop at jodhpur before going on to Jaisalmer which I loved, then took a detour on the way back to Delhi to go to deshnok & the rat temple which was amazing ( obviously unless you’ve got a massive phobia of rats)
Got back on my 3 rd visit just before the first lockdown from Maharashtra touring around the state,
Kerala back waters and Varanasi are 2 places I really want to visit
As you say it’s like nowhere else , the noise, smells, craziness, street food, nice people, scenery, I travel solo backpacking and don’t book anything apart from the flight- just see what happens & it’s mostly great,

Italy
USA
India
You me & Hills are surprisingly the only people who’ve mentioned India, love everything about it & can’t wait to go back ,unfortunately though it looks like it will be a long time off, still in touch with a few people I met & when you hear about the shortage of wood to burn all the bodies it’s horrendous

Mexico, Balearic isles, Florida Keys (USA)….. lived in main line Spain, would like to see more, the world is a big place…… Hawaii when im 50, Tahiti for some reason I want to see too……….

Jamaica
Greece
Spain

Not interested in the far east- eating pickled crickets does not appeal.
Fair enough fcb but de- boned chicken feet, goat fried in clarified butter, beef marrow bone masala & chicken livers in chilli paste are all great, not so much intestine stew, sheep brain & buffalo bile soup

Jamaica
Greece

It’s not compulsory, believe it or not! In fact never seen such a thing apart from in Thailand (a friend of mine used to buy a handful of fried crickets and put them on a Subway sandwich for the crunch)

My wife was lucky enough to spend 6 months touring north India in her youth after living in Nepal for a while teaching English in the Himalayas - I've only been a couple of times to Bangalore and the surrounding area, but as you describe, the noise, smells, scenery, history, cows wandering on the main road, entire families on one small motorbike, food, friendly people - you just cant look away. I thought it was brilliant and a great change from McCountries where you might as well be anywhere else. Like you, I'd like to see more, it's not just one place, but many. Some hard stuff too, some of the poverty etc, similar in the Phillippines which would have been 4th on my list, but it's seeing the world real and raw.

I need to get some ideas to draw up a list for January, obviously dependant on restrictions
For me
1 by far India
2 Laos
3 Cambodia
Eastern Europe/ South America/ as far as you can go up to the top of Scotland/route 66/ Vegas/Scandinavia/north Africa or anywhere else, I’m open to suggestions- just need to get away, will miss a few games but I’m sure there will be some way to watch them
Florida
Poland
Italy
(Although my favourite is England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿)
