Just watching this Film on the auld IPTV. Got 25 mins left….. Vastly, vastly overrated so far…formulaic, painting by numbers Yank Blockbuster. It ain‘t bad take your Brains Out entertainment I guess


BUT even people whose opinion I actually respected had told me …

”it’s brilliant”

”I couldn’t breathe for that last hour”

etc etc.….


I am very disappointed

Thought it was good, but definitely not a wow film

Agree with every word. I went to see the original in the mid-80s when I was working on fighter jets in the RAF. I loved it.

But - the sequel is too similar and too formulaic as you say. The main thing is liked was the nostalgia. But otherwise it was disappointing. Perhaps it should have been left well alone as it was a stand alone classic.

(I can’t abide low IQ formulaic dross which I why I hate the James Bond movies. This latest one had the usual evil henchman who happened to have a facial disfigurement. Oh look - the evil baddy has a scarred face - how very progressive and positive that this pathetic franchise stereotypes and fuels the discrimination against those who have facial marks etc.

And don’t get me started on how he was perving all over women half his age. And also don’t get me started on how he got blown up several times and reincarnated himself, before even he succumbed to a missile arsenal, akin to what Putin has been throwing at Ukraine, landing on his cranium. Poor James. Utter tedious outdated dross all too willingly lapped up by the dullards who self-lobotomised via Netflix during lockdown).

I bought the original on video only because surround sound was in its infancy and I had a top of the range set up with a council house size TV!

Amazing sound track but remakes always disappoint and I am with you on this.
 
What surprises me is that from everyone who had seen it there was not ONE dissenting voice saying “actually it isn’t great”….mass hysteria clearly in evidence

I haven’t seen it, but I know it would bore me to absolute tears. And I’m right with you with your Bond sentiment. Its all just brain dead nonsense.

The first was utter wank anyway and I usually like Tom Cruise films.

Must admit I usually like Tom cruise. I liked him most in Vanilla Sky. It was a very dark tragic story.

I love the Jack Reacher books - so was quite surprised he played Reacher as he’s meant to be a 6 foot 5 hulk. But in fairness he carried it off well.
 
think it got it's own thread when it first came out. Pretty sure I said back then that I went with the missus to the cinema to see it and for me it comes nowhere near to how good the original was. Pretty much the same story line and for me the chemistry just wasn't there between both the love interest and the two main protagonists. Very slow to get going and yep there were some impressive flight scenes at the end but agree with Blood as a 6/10 rating.
