France's Sports Minister says they are considering holding the TdF without spectators.
From the BBC website:
Maracineanu said one thing in favour of running the race 'behind closed doors' was that "it won't have the same [financial] impact because the business model of the Tour doesn't depend on ticket sales like football or rugby".
One despairs - how does she think they can ban spectators from an event taking place on thousands of miles of public roads? Let alone the riders and support staff in close proximity.
Or is it another example of a politician floating a bad idea and then taking credit for not doing it?
