Turton

Just seen someone saying on Twitter that they dont get the hate for Turton. I have to agree. He isn't ever going to be above League 1 standard but so far this season he has done too badly. I've been alot less worried about our right than I have our left anyway. He doesn't light the world up but he is steady for us and I just dont understand why people seem to hate him so much. There are worst players currently at the club thats for sure. Seems like he is going to be this seasons Nuttall without being as bad as he was for us.

Well I’m just saying it’s unnecessary, we all have opinions on players but there’s no need for hatred. an unhealthy dislike maybe 😄

I dont get it either, would rather have him on the pitch instead of Ward right now, yet he gets more shite talked about him than Ward ever does.
I wish he would pass forward more, but he's not been terrible for us this season.
Only just in my starting 11 ahead of Gabriel, but he's still there for me.

No way is Turton a bad player - at the moment he is playing well and passing on experience to younger players. Stays in the team for me.

I haven’t seen all the games, but in at least two that I have seen I had him down as our MOTM.
He can cover four positions if anyone gets injured during a game as well, which is always useful.
How did he play today? I am assuming he was played as a holding midfielder?

I'm not about to join a Turton love in, however i do have an opinion on him that says he's a good player to be in a squad but as cover for a number of First choice players positions.
He's shown today he's versatile and he is technical sound.

Played well, did his job but didn't do anything flashy. Just sat back and covered for the most part. Prefer him at RB, but a good option for when we are short him midfield.

Holding midfielder yes. Turtinho had a solid game... broke up the play and even had some diagonal long range balls in his locker

If every Prime Minister needs a Willie, every football manager needs an Ollie.
A decent honest pro, who knows his limitations, gives his all for the team, maybe lacks flair but does a steady job, and his versatility is an asset to the squad.
Probably a six out of ten every match, but a valued squad member.

Should back himself more in attacking positions. He cuts back inside and slows play down too much for me. Space is so hard to win in this league that you have to take advantage when you get a move going.

He's extremely poor. Overrated as a defender. He doesn't hold possession very well. In the majority of games this season his major pass placement was backwards. He doesn't have a left foot. He has the odd sprinkle of quality. But it's very rare.

He had the ball in midfield today, he had a pass to Kaikai, Yates and Kemp open. He turned 180 degrees and gave it to Marvin. He's just not very good. He might have played well against Eastbourne, but even then he didn't really do anything did he?

Gabriel is a hundred times the right back Turton will ever be.

Damned with faint praise?

I love the fact that at best some of our pundits on here have at best played Sunday League football and yet think they are ...well intelligent enough to be Managing the Team...and even worse selecting it 😉.
Having watched( yes I have BT Sports) it was a decent performance against a team who put everything into it...especially in the first half..it was a potential banana skin moment.
NC was spot on when he said after we went 2 up the last twenty minutes we were very sloppy.
As for Turton I thought he did well in a different role to his normal one.

Kurt. Don't be so negative. I've been a big critic of Turts in the past and it's very easy to pick on a player you don't like and blame him for everything
I used to do that with Hubby. He (Turts) did OK today.
I haven't blamed him for a single thing? I'm just saying, if you think he's the first choice right back or a midfielder then expect mid to low positioning in this division because frankly he isn't good enough for what we want to achieve.

Blame might be the wrong word.
You 're just too negative about him. He's a good, experienced League 1 professional in a squad lacking in experience.

I'm not too negative around him. I just see him for what he is. If it helps, he's better than McMahon.

We have better with the right back shirt now. So it's fine, he'll be on the bench

I thought he had a decent game today, but it was against non league opposition. In terms of league1 I see him as a squad player (always in the 18) capable of covering both full back positions and defensive midfield.

He sets himself very low standards and unfortunately fails to live up to them.

Sorry Insy that’s a poor comparison. You are comparing Turton, who is bad, with Husband who is terrible.

That's a double negative.
I didn't think Hubby had one of his better games today and Eastbourne's best chance highlighted his biggest weakness which is mis-judging the flight of long balls over his shoulder.
It's a difficult call for our best 11 now.
Gabriel could have the edge on Turts but he (Gabs) wasn't tested defensively in the last two games.
I think Hubby is ahead of Garbutt/Mitchell currently neither of whom have done enough to impress me YET.

I think Turton is our longest serving player isn't he? For that he deserves some respect.
He did OK today and is a great squad player to have. If the team is looking to finish in the top 6, he wouldn't be a regular starter for me. He's a reasonable player at this level, but in midfield more often than not looks for the sideways or back pass. Gabriel is a better footballer.

Sorry, along time since I studied anything, never mind English. I should have said, you are comparing Husband who is terrible with Turton who isn’t quite so bad. 😜

I wasn't criticising your English just your criticism of 2 players.

He’s a steady RB for this level, there’s no Trent’s or Reece James style RB for this level so not sure what people expect. As a few others have said, there’s a lot more problems in our best side that turton at the moment.

Definitely worth his place in the 11 with the current squad we have.

I think he is only on a one year contract, if we do get promoted I would not expect him to be given a new one, If we stay L1 happy to re sign him as a squad player

I’m not a fan and he wouldn’t be in my starting 11. That said if selected I’m right behind him, I don’t understand the abuse. It’s unwarranted.

No one's abusing him. It's a football forum, to discuss football and footballers. He isn't good enough to help us progress. He might put 100% in. But I expect us to want to get to the championship. He isn't the answer at right back to do that.

According to others on this thread they are ( see opening O/P) if you have read my posts you will know I agree with you.

Think we will rotate between Turton and Gabriel depending on the game. If we need a defensively minded RB then we will got with Turton, if we're up against a team where we can push forward then it will be Gabriel. Always good to have options.
My main point with the post was that some people totally write him off constantly, when we have had worse player's this season. Like I said, I've worried more about the left than the right so far. Just seems like he is the one to be picked on this year when he hasn't done much wrong. We love a scapegoat, this season he seems to be it.

Well I think Turton is good. I've said elsewhere on here that his football brain is ahead of his practical ability but at least he's prepaped to give things a go.
I honestly wonder if some people set low expectations for him and then interpret what happens to suit that agenda.

Can you quote? Because I haven't actually seen anything.
I'm not gonna get into it with you. I'm 99% sure you're the same Kurt on Twitter trying to argue with anyone that will listen to you about Turton tonight. From what I've seen, you are allowed an opinion but no one else is. I dont deal with trolls which is all you have been all day to the point you've had other fans muting or blocking you. Not a good look.

As the post above said, you are obviously the Kurt off Twitter that has been baiting people into arguments all day. So I'm not going to get into it with you. You are entitled to your opinion but please respect that others are entitled to there's. It's all subjective anyway.
